The second picture shows what we believe is an octopus found in a shell washed out on the beach.

Identified this thingiemajig...



Paper Nautilus - Argonauta argo

A cephalopod, amongst the most advanced molluscs, and ranks amongst the most sophisticated of all invertebrates!
Body with 8 arms, 2 of which are flattened and responsible for secreting and holding the shell. Grows 10cm.
The shell is an internal flotation device.

This little hill... better known as "Kots heuwel" will haunt many of us for a long time to come... after a long, hard day's fishing, losing PB's, braving gale force winds and torrential rain etc etc... long walk back home to the camp site, only to be confronted by a short very steep dune... fully loaded I nearly didn't make it on at least 2 occasions...  :puke:
