Radio license VHF
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:38:04 PM »
Hi Guys
This might have been discussed before but I have not found a clear procedure, like a dummies guide when selling your boat with the radio.
What are your obligations as the license holder and do you retain the MMSI number?
I have mailed Icasa and they replied that this woulf be treated like a new application......not what I asked.
thanks

My understanding is that the MMSI number is linked to your Ship Station License number. When I sold my boat there was about 3 years left of a 5year license for the radio’s, the ICASA Ship Station Application form had a facility to transfer the existing license, I assume the new owner went ahead and followed through with the transfer. This all may have changed since SAMSA released Marine Notice No. 58 of 2020, that draws attention to the new ICASA Online Portal which is to be used when applying for an ICASA Ship Station License. ICASA no longer accepts manual application licenses.
