Importing boat to Mozambique any advise ?.
« on: January 10, 2021, 07:05:34 PM »
Hi,
I am planning to move to Inhasorro and need some advise on taking my boat with.
I do not want to tow it back to SA every month.

So :
1) Would it be worth importing it to Moz and registering it there ?. If so, how do I do that ?.

2) would I only have to regesten the trailer  in Moz or the boat as well ?.

Any advise would be highly appreciated.
Why Not....

You can only keep your boat for 30 days under a temporary import permit. After that period you either fully import it or tow it back.

So if you don't want to tow it, the option is to import it.

You can do it yourself, but the paper work in normal circunstances is a nightmare. In these pandemic times, I'd say it should be hectic... so ky advice is yo contact a "despachante aduaneiro" (customs broker) that will guide you and pretty much do it for you. You have to hand him the paper work and money to pay for the import taxes (brace yourself!!!).

You will have to register the trailer (like a normal vehicle - pay the taxes for it) and the boat (pay the taxes for it as well)... after the import is completed you need to register the boat in Vilankulo or probably Inhambane at the local maritime authority (INAMAR).

It will be a long and depressing process...
