Decided to do some Micro fishing Sunday @ Durban Wilsons Wharf
« on: September 30, 2020, 09:46:31 AM »
Hi Guys
Hey Guys
Did not go fishing for quiet some time due to a new angler being born, wife had to work, kid was by the in laws so decided to do some Micro fishing (That's the only tackle I have ready in the car) at Wilsons Wharf side.

Used a 6ft Okuma sloppy rod and size 30 Okuma revenger pro with 8lb mono (not sure if this qualifies as Micro)
Did not try with cracker shrimp as my bait license had expired, so used some pink prawn and mackerel which is a bit tougher than sardine and would stay on the hook a bit longer.
Fished throughout the light rain and managed some fish before it began getting cold.
First pic- small grunter caught on mackerel bait
Second pic- slimy caught on mackerel bait
Third pic- small/med grunter caught on pink prawn (enjoyed the fight this fish put up)
Fourth pic- Can anyone identify this fish? caught on pink prawn also
Fifth pic- everyone's favorite, caught on mackerel
Yes all fish released, good to see the amount of juvenile fish in this area.

Enjoyed my little fishing trip.
Hope you guys can post more about your trips whether your'l targeting big fish or small.
Its a good read.

Pic 4 looks like a juvenile Stumpy.

Would have guessed the same at first glance, but on appearance this fish has a more rounded head, more like a Karanteen head and slender body. Stumpnose may have a broader body and a head like a blacktail

Could be a juvenile White Musselcracker (Brusher).
Nice catches! Looks like great fun!  (clap)

The forth fish is a white Karanteen, see page 345 of The Common Sea Fishes of SA by Rudy.
