Advice: Shimano Jigwrex S554
« on: July 01, 2020, 10:23:43 PM »
Hi guys I need your opinion on the above rod, I was offered one for R950 but dont know much about it except that its 5.5ft length, max 200g and PE4. Like new condition. What would be a good reel for this?
I googled but theres not much info available.

TIA

PE4 is considered a light outfit. So if you're wanting something light then that's ok. Bear in mind that light jigs don't work well in heavy current and depth. For depth you need to go minimum 350g and up. 400g is what many manufacturers offer.

I think the the new approach to light jigging is more aimed toward slow pitch jigging... This can be a lot of fun but it requires a light rod with a lot of tip action.

Pairing with the Jigwrex (assuming it's a spinning outfit) would be 5-6k in Shimi or 3-4k in Daiwa.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

Hi Styx thanks for the info, do you think its worth the price though or could the money be spent towards upgrading to something better?

Personally... If it were my choice, I'd rather look for a Trevala 6'6 MH... Or even the 5.8 XXH. I've seen a couple come up at good prices over the years. And they have a wide reputation as damn fine sticks.

Ok so I offloaded some surplus items and bought a Trevala MH 7ft.
Got a good deal from Ganis R1400 incl courier.
