How long have you been looking? I have bought two boats in the last say 5 years, and in both cases I knew when I had found a winner. You need to look at quite a few to get a feel for the market and then you will know when you have a winner.

I would assume that there are not many crap boats about these days? I pretty recently bought an Ace Glider, also with 2 x suzuki 90s with under 30 hrs on them.  I am super happy with this rig. I was a little concerned about fuel, but we usually potter around trawling to wherever we are going, and this boat honestly uses less fuel than my little rubber duck with 20x 40Hp 2 stroke yamaha's. It's really remarkable.

My boat has a very big sun canopy, which may restrict throwing rods around the boat a little, but I would not change it. I am really a pale, paleface and I am happy to be on the sea all day on this boat.

What I am saying basically is that depending on where you are coming from, you will probably not be disappointed. I wish I could say I am loving the ace glider, but I am getting pretty pissed now with this lockdown as I should be out at sea, on it now having a good time. AS it stands my wife and one son are stuck in KZN and I and my other son are stuck in Kyalami and I am not sure when we will see each other again!

On the plus side you will have plenty of time to look over auto trader, gumtre, olx etc to get a feel for the market. You should do this anyway as many of these boats may have been advertised for a long time and that should come into your negotiating strategy. It is definitely a buyers market right now and probably will be for some time. I would imagine that dealers may even be willing to shift some second hand stock at a loss just to generate some cash flow.

Hi,

I have owned a Kosi 186 and its a pretty decent boat. They are cheaper than other boats in there class, and unfortunately there a reason for it. The finishes on the boat its that gr8, but acceptable. Not in the class of lets say (Yeld, zcraft and tomcats). But thats why the price is lower. They like heavier motors which give a better ride quality. They do Bang a bit. The plus is more deck space that most boats in the class. :tgr:

I think i have an idea of the boat in question. (Hakuna Matata). If its that boat the hull will give me nightmares. Something seems wrong.

I think with the current economic situation there going to be a few boats in the market in the coming month so dont be in to much of a rush in making a decision.

Hello
Thanks for your reply.  Yes you are correct, it is the same boat mentioned. Will have  to wait, after locked down is over. Any idea which boat I should look for. This is what I prefer.
All round boat
4 strokes outboard
High gunnels
Soft ride
Looks modern
Affordable
Can run with a small crew
Light to tow
Will run in big sea and easy to surf launch.
Lastly , a safe boat, will have my kids with me.
Thanks for your assistance, stay safe

The kosi is a decent boat, just not sure about that one, the dents in the hull is just to one to much for me.

I would look 17ft to 19ft. Price is going to play the main factor.

FYI My boat with 115hp mercury 4stokes and double axle trailer weighed 2.2 tons on the weight bridge. So iets very manageable but to the lightest either.

What about the secant 520? I am not too sure about easy to tow. My duck was pretty easy to tow, but any of the fibreglass boats are way heavier. I see you are in dbn. Will you be launching from the ski boat club or harbour, or one of the beach launch sites? The mass is much less of an issue if you have the luxury of using the club tractors to launch and retrieve.

I think you are going to be in a position where people are looking to liquidate assets soon, so keep your eyes open and see what you can get. What car will you be towing with?

Hello
Thx for the reply.
I will be towing . I have Toyota Fortuner 4x4. I live 15 minutes from the Durban Coast line. I will join Durban Ski Boat Club and also use the harbor slipway.
What the difference between SeaCat 510 vs 520. I have been on SeaCat 510, what a disaster. Boat motor failure  and boat  was taking in water. Thx to fellow skipper we got towed.
Have a safe day
Thx

The 510 is a 16ft and the 520 is a 17ft.
I have had 2 x 520's no issue with either, iv also fished on 510's many times, sound like a maintenance issue on the the 510 you were on.

The boats are easy to tow, iv towed with an amarok, a land cruiser and the old and new hilux. Easy to tow and operate on the beach.

agreed with the above posts that there should be some good deals coming about soon, im also keeping my eyes open for a good deal.
2019 Yeld cat 17Ft with 2 x F70 yammies
