Abu Ambassadeur 9000C Service
« on: December 25, 2019, 04:49:46 PM »
Hi all. Here is a tutorial I made for servicing an Abu Ambassadeur 9000C multiplier reel. It is quite an interesting reel, in that it has an automatic 2-speed, where under enough tension, the reel kicks into a lower gear. It's quite a simple but clever design

This reel belongs to my father and is over 30 years old. It was used extensively by my father off the beach in the Western Cape, matched to a 13 foot 6 Conoflex graphite rod, that is still hanging in his garage. This was in fact the reel that I used when learning how to cast a multiplier for the first time. It has been looked after, however it has sat in a cupboard for over a decade without being used. Sitting idle for so long doesn't help things that are meant to move. The anti-reverse was not working and I was intrigued by the design of the reel, so I decided to take it apart, give it a service and fix the anti-reverse and see how the reel is built

On with the service:

nice job Emjay, thanks

Thanks! Apologies for some of the spelling and grammar mistakes in the captions of the photos. This tutorial took me the better part of the day to do and I started getting tired and my English started slacking

Was an interesting reel to work on. A bit more complicated than what I'm used to, but it's just different, not necessarily difficult. Taking photos along the way is very important if you don't know your way around a reel!

Looking forward to loading it up with some good line, attaching it to my father's old Conoflex rod and giving it a throw!

i half heartely googled for gear ratios, info i found was on the 10000 model 1:4,2 and 1:2,5.
both of these gears are serious work horses comparing to todays common
