Shimano Sustain SA3000XGFI Reel with L&F Platinum?
« on: October 21, 2019, 10:03:00 AM »
Morning

I started again doing DS and light spinning.

I just returned from Kei Mouth and realized that my reel does not pair with my rod too well.
It is a 4000 size Daiwa Laguna I think (feels too heavy) and my rod is the L&F platinum H in 9 foot.(love that rod)

I want to upgrade my reel to a Shimano Sustain SA3000XGFI?

Would the size and weight of the reel  be appropriate for the rod?
Thanks in advance.

At least got a small shark and sea barbel last week on bait.

I would use 4000 OR 5000 if I where you. You need the line capacity for when a big fish picks you up.

Bear in mind that a 4000 Daiwa equates to approximately 6000 Shimi. Id definitely not go smaller than 4k in shimi. The Stradic 5000FK is a "small" 5000 that has amazing features for its' price. Not sure about the newer FL model, haven't read much about it.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

100m cast.

Fish takes as lure lands (we can hope...)
Pulls maybe 50m of line.
Still have about 100m of line.

Casting performance a 5k Shimmie wins hands down though

Thanks for the input.
Mail ordering gear is not easy as one cannot physically test and feel.
And living far from metros does not help either.

I have the same rod and will pair it with a 4000 size shimano and give you some feedback if you haven't made a decision yet? A 5000 Shimano will definitely be too big for this rod in my view so either the 4000 or 3000. I have a 2500 Daiwa that matches this rod really well. Can you post/send me a pic of the rod just to confirm?

Thanks Haroldg.

I actually bought the 3000 and then another 5000 and yes the 5000 feels a bit out of balance.
The 3000 also is just left of the scale again. I bet the 4k will be a  :win:

I have a 11" Archipelago and that again does feel a bit out with the 5k and i believe a 6k will serve better.

But for now the 3k will go on my 7" outfit. The 5k will have to do with the Archipelago for now and i will be waiting to hear from you and then maybe get the 4k for the DS outfit.
A DC Oval is in the cards and might pair well with the 5k and then I'll get a 6k for the Archipelago.

I must admit that this is how it seems now. I have yet to spool any of the Sustains and the balance might change with the weight of the braid?

Thanks for the offer and I will appreciate your feedback.

The nice thing about this situation is that it seems I have a lot of excuses to satisfy my TA :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :hyst: :yipee: :craz:
