I have been adding colored reflective tape of various colours to my yellowtail spoons and plugs for years.
I even bought a heat shrink product which covers the spoons and makes them look like sardines.
Besides the fun I had putting them on the spinners, I cant say I have consistently caught more or less than my partner.
What I can say that some days a shiny spoon will perform better than a taped spoon and visa versa.
An experienced yellowtail fisherman used to put red insulation tape on the shaft of his trebles and insisted it worked better.
I have used red heat shrink to do the same with inconclusive results
I dont have much experience with plugs, but would imagine flashy tape might be more attractive than plain colours.
If anything, it increases the variety you can offer to attract the fish.
Will try post some pics
