Reef Runner 25
« on: July 05, 2019, 12:20:03 PM »
Anyone has experience with these boats? I know it is an old Zim design that has evolved into other brands currently in production.

Want to know about handling and overall seaworthiness of the hull

Thanks!!!

Good hulls, the Novacat was a copy of the original Reef runners that were around Vilankulos. Having spent a lot of time on a novacat they top hulls, small bang into a sea, but they ride very very well in a following sea!! They are however pretty heavy!

Thanks guys... heavy is good. Especially in the choppy waters of Maputo bay.

(Rotting) wood is a concern...

I think that is a "given" with all old hulls. I reckon that if you are going to go down that road, it should almost be accepted from the beginning that a rebuild is inevitable. But once done, and done properly, you will have a boat that is irreplaceable... But the flip side is that you will never recover your rebuild money should you decide to sell.

If I was going to get an old boat like this, I'd use it "as is" for a year or so, and if this was the one that "till death do us part"... I'd do the rebuild myself over a winter and spare no expense.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.
