Securing your motors
« on: June 10, 2019, 06:23:34 AM »
Hi,

How do you guys secure your motors to prevent them from being stolen ?.

I have 2 x 40hp motors and was wondering if anyone have a DIY tip for preventing theft....?.

Thanks

Weld the bolts vas..
That's what we had to do, and park the boat next to a neighbor who is an ex-recce and does not sleep too much at night..and likes to play with his S&W. ;)

Fit an extra nut or two onto each bolt and weld. To remove use a grinder to cut off the welded nut. The extra nuts make it easier to cut off the welded nut without damaging your motor

you should also put a stainless plate across the transom, overseas my boets mate had his motor stolen they just used a chain saw and cut the transom away
when I die, may my wife not sell my fishing tackle for what I told her I paid for it... and I have bought more, a severe case of TA

Apologies for dredging up old posts here, just wondering about the risks associated with welding so close to the motor?
