Raggies? Where else in Africa?
« on: February 15, 2019, 01:35:43 PM »
Hello everyone,

As the title says. Anyone have any idea where we can catch Raggies in Africa? We dont want to go and fish and catch one by chance but rather target them?

Any help would be awesome!!

Thanks guys.

I don't know about the rest of Africa but we caught 5 or 6 at Mapelane one Easter weekend. Geez I've
just had a look at my post about that trip and it was in 2011 !!

The Southern Cape is a good area to target them.

So Raggies can be found throughout our entire coastline, but become rarer on the West Coast as the water gets colder.

Most common areas to find them are KZN North coast, Southern Cape, Eastern Cape and Transkei.

In any of these areas, there are several other species of Shark that you could catch. Sharks are not particularly fussy eaters, so by simply  targeting Sharks, you stand a good chance of hooking a Raggie in the process.

Get them here on the US East Coast as well, they call them Sand Tiger Sharks but not quite the size that we het them in SA. We’re planning on targeting them as soon as the water starts warming up in Spring/Summer.
