Which rod?
« on: December 19, 2018, 01:11:26 pm »
Hi Chaps

Got a Daiwa Seagate 4500 reel that I want to pair up for some rock and surf fishing. Looking at the Assassin Sabre maybe as it is in my price range, but which one will be a good balance ? Any alternative recommendations?

Thanks in advance!!

Have a look at the Assassin Bleufish (go and check out ZLF Fishing on Youtube where they fish at De Hoop). Otherwise the Sabre would be a good option. The MH will balance nicely with that reel. Another great option is the Adrenalin Triple X rods, they have a nice thin blank design which is great when you're going to stand on the beach all day long and they are really well prices rods.

Hi Grapnel
Check the Poseidon HMG ultra light or the Daiwa saltist 2-4oz.
Those are some excellent rods to pair that reel with.

Cheers

Hi - I am also looking for advice on a rod for rock and surf - a great grinder rod matched with the penn slammer 6500 for edibles mostly. I am fishing Struisbaai amd Overberg areas.

Cheers

The are different forms of rock and surf fishing i.e.: scratching, medium edible fishing, heavy fishing for ineds etc etc. With the Seagate 4500E, I would assume some edible fishing?

The reel is a tad smaller than the Daiwa BG4500 for example (iirc). Its a phenomenal reel however and you can still get about 500m+ 20lb braid onto it.The Assassin Sabre is a great rod for its price and will work. Alternatively you could look at a shorter 12.6ft rod like the Assassin Surf or Daiwa Saltist.

For the Slammer 6500, i would look into the Berkley Anaconda or the Adrenaline Akula. I have an Anaconda paired with the Slammer 6500HS, its awesome combo. The rod is expensive though which is why i suggest the cheaper Akula if your budget is a bit tight
