Open it up and give it a good service for starters. Sounds like it needs it!?

i have been told that the blue spool is not meant for braid that is the reason my one cracked, at the moment i can only get another blue spool to replace it, should i refill it with braid and mono, or just mono, or is there a trick that you guys use when filling braid on these spools to prevent the cracking?

I'd say yes havent heard of other spools cracking on Saltigas unless been dropped or mishandled , dropped etc or reel not been assembled correctly .. :dunno:

I know many guys, including myself, who have Blue spool Saltiga's with Braid backing directly onto the spool. Never heard of any cracking issues.

Have seen a couple, mine included, of Saltiga aluminium frames cracking alongside the screwholes...

If you're worried about it, put 30m of mono on the spool first, then the braid. Personally I wouldn't bother, but if it's going to affect your confidence, then just do it.
