Casting leaders

Hi Guys

I picked up some Gosen casting braid for a new reel yesterday and wanted to ask if it is necessary to add a heavier Casting leader to it? The braid is 30lb (PE2) and would it be necessary too add considering it is quite heavy as is?

It would be for some saltwater spinning. 5000 reel and 10'6" rod combo.  Going to the South Coast on the weekend to see if there any Sards still around and maybe a few gamefish about.

Thanks for the great info! I'll give this a bash. What would your suggestion be in terms of poundage for a 30lb mainline, 50lb leader?

If this was a 500 size Daiwa BG reel and a BlackHole 10.6 rod, the dynamics change quite dramatically..  :hnthnt:

On PE2 casting braid a PE4 (50 lb) braid leader (maximum) works well if you fish heavy structure.

Thanks for the reply. I've followed reefmans advise on the casting leader and used 50lb leader as suggested by you.  Hope to find some fish tomorrow morning at Stebel Rocks tomorrow.

Sorry for belated reply! Hope you hooked into some fish at Stiebel? Plugs work very well there.

I started on a plug then went to a chase spoon after nothing was happening. Not one touch unfortunately and not much action to be seen anywhere. Will be back tomorrow again. Thank you for the tip.
