Uilenkraal/Franskraal - Advice needed
« on: January 15, 2018, 03:03:02 AM »
Good day all,

Your advice regarding the weather conditions - especially the barometric pressure would be appreciated. Please find attached predicted conditions for the weekend. I would like to target Cob and Steenbras if at all possible. Booking has been made and accommodation has been paid. I wouldn't mind catching elf if they are around. I have not caught an elf in the Overberg as yet. I will be staying in the Uilenkraals resort. I do not own a 4 X 4 but I am willing to take a up to 2hour walk on the plaat if I have to.
Your input would be appreciated. My original plan is to fish the plaat from 04:00 on Saturday morning. Baits would be chokka, sand prawn and hopefully some bloodworm. smaller sharks ie: Smoothies and spotted gullies would be fun as well.

Thanking you :shd: :blktl:

Hi Blok I will also be trying my luck at Uilenkraal next month. I don't know uilenkraal but I do know Die Gruis produces leka. I fished there before.
Since you do not have a 4x4 it's a 3.5km walk along the beach towards pearly as you know...basically after Plaat. You there when you hit the pebble beach.
Pushing tide. Early morning and sunset. Steenbrass, Kob and BIG elf. Dont be shy to use a whole headless sard for those elf.

Thanx 2bar,

my plan was to take the long walk to Die Gruis very early morning(04:30) towards the gruis. Easterly wind is going to pump though. at least I got the wind behind my back when I take a trap back. I will definitely put a rod out for those bus shad thanx. Your input is truly appreciated.

:thmsup" :thmsup" Seems the larger elf prefer larger baits...they will ignore strip/skinny baits

Will do, I am in a Chalet as well. Two nights only though. Laatie must go back to school. I will most probably stay there for a week during the July school holidays. Target Galjoen and Steenbras then. :tite :gljn: :gljn:

Yes Lofty,

Unfortuanately their was a serious lack of communication at Uilenkraalsmond where I would've stayed. ended up not going. Paid for the accommodation already. we postponed till mid Feb. I will fish Pearly beach on Tuesday though.

How is the fishing in Mosselbay lately?
Send Heinrich (Matthee) my regards

Hi, I will be in Gansbaai 16/17/18 Feb. New experience for me as well. Heard that the harbour wall is the place to be.
What kind of bait do i take with me?
