Hi Lgf,  milling is not essential here. For those of us sans a lathe etc,  use of a grub screw as in your drag setup would suffice for a collet other side of the spool instead of the shoulder. Hell, if one looked around your garage I am positive something can be improvised. It is a lekker spooler and simple though

Will see how the next version pans out, maybe then. I needed one and couldn't wait so I made one, not sure if there's a huge market for this, but perhaps there's a bloke here or there that would like one, so I will most definitely consider that.

That's exactly what I did, looked around in the Weasel Worx and found the material and turned that into a spooler, and you are correct, it doesn't need to be all wow and make coffee whilst you're filling up reels, it just needs to be functional, hassle free and have the ability to allow one to adjust tension on the spool. And so the grub-screw idea is fine, what I have found however is that tread in the soft aluminium tends to give-up when you need to secure the collet onto a SS rod as the SS is a wee bit slippery, the only option is to over-drill on the depth into the SS rod so the grub screw can actually penetrate the SS rod, no need for thread in the SS.

Coming to think of it, threaded rod could also be an option where lock-nuts could be used to secure the collet that can be made of wood sanded into shape, really it doesn't need to be made from high end materials, I just did cause its what I had and I tend to over design as I break lots of things very very often

Depending on cost, I'd definitely be interested. I know the quality of your work, so if I'm going to buy one, it will be from you! Perfectionists unite!
I think the crossbar just needs to be longer in order to accommodate one of those big 1000m spools of braid. The spool alone is about 12 -15cm wide.
A milled version would be first prize for me.... don't want grub screws stripping out over time?

This is the uber sophisticated jobbie I occasionally use. Comes as a package,  old broken baitcaster as reel holder and part of tensioner mechanism.  The spooler part is an old piece of dowel that fits all spools and the collets  come with built in drag system. Can apply up to 30 pounds drag pressure too. The inherent design flaw here is the heat build up. This is generally overcome using a spray bottle to cool things down.  I will possibly make improvements with a view to marketing online   :-)

Occasionally use a willing victim to assist when heat exchange is not under control though

I managed to buy a motorized one many years ago when a smaller fishing shop went bust. Wasn't cheap at the time but now worth its weight in gold.
