I got told a long time ago that when spooling up a reel that you should pull out the pin on the spool that you tie your line on to.The pin's weight supposedly affected the spool's balance and created a vibration.I have seen this posted time and time again over the years.Today I had a bit of a suprise.I recently bought a second hand TN30 .The reel was supplied " bare shaft " with the pin still attached. The first thing I did was pull the pin out and wind up some line.I struggled to get the reel to cast and it vibrated quite badly so I stripped the reel down and sent the bare spindle into a balancing shop ( they balance things like aircraft turbines etc etc so they are quite good ) and asked them to have a look at it.Without the pin in the spool was totally out of balance , with the pin in the spool was almost vibration free.It seems that the Shimmies spools are balanced from the factory with the pin in.Comments ???
From whom did you see these postings ?Let me answer..... Shimano fans right !Is rabies curable ? shouldnt you be put down ?? Can you let me know your vets number please , I want to help with the procedureSolution....... buy a Daiwa !
Very interesting subject! Because of the hype regarding vibrating spools in the past, I also removed the pin out of my Trini 30 when it was brand new, but luckily it has never affected the spool... thank goodness! Because I pulled a phat trying to get the pin out! No ways it's ever going to go back in again!
Pardon my ignorance but what's a Phat when its it out about and does it have a part number?
