Good luck Rodger, we hope it is nothing serious. If only we knew about the damage the sun can cause when we were younger.

:corrct: :corrct: in our day I never used sunscreen, and it was clever to use brake fluid .
Good luck Rodger , I must make an appointment again but it really chews up the Med Aid.  :toppie:

When we were young no one had skin cancer...or so we thought because no one talked about cancer then

I never used sunscreen  cuz of my Mediterranean skin......I thought. At most we used to tan with brylcream or nivea...just to get brown. We often got rely burnt and skin peeled...and we thought nothing of it.

These days only my hands are exposed when not wearing gloves...and face is plastered with factor 50. Uv resistant shirt and longs is the only way I go fishing these days

Dermatologist says also make sure that you put sunscreen on your inner earlobes because  reflections from the water wil burn your ears even if you wear a wide brimmed hat

Yah guys completely underestimate the damage sun does. Have had 2 malignant cancers cut out in the last 3 years. Luckily we caught them early. Squamous carcinoma's.
Hats and Factor 50... rash vests under fishing shirts... buffs... not to mention sunglasses!
Sun is the primary cause of Cataracts in you eyes... wear good sunglasses.

Good luck Dodge!

Yup - known fact that Fishermen are more prone to skin cancer inside ear lobes because of reflection off the water... buffs on the water are a must!

Yup you will see on our outings, the southern cape rocks are rough even on a cloudy day.... after 8 hours in the sun.... once we were there during a heat wave and i left a pilchard in a plastic bag on the front of the rocks, when i went to pick it up, it was cooked, the tail came out and it flaked off the bone...

We have also sat with our yellow rainjackets on before buffs came around in bright sunshine... i always say it's not a fashion show it's whatever keeps old tap tap at bay...

Factor 50, the one for kids that's like wheelgrease.  We put that on before we leave the house.  I then have the spray on factor 50 in my bag/box.   What i have found with the buff if you pull it over your nose, and down again to talk or eat/drink, you wipe away the sunblock on the cheek and nose.  A serious windy day will also make the sunblock less effective.  Reapply by 11 latest with the spray on jobbie.  Also your hands... i find the gloves uncomfortable, so i apply the spray on factor 50 to the back of my hands often during the day.  My uncle just had about 15 spots burnt on each of his hands...  I know i have a few that will have to go soon.

Good sunglasses, even half good polarized ones... I never wore them, lost about 30% vision in my left eye in the space of 5 months.  Apparantly the right curve on the surface of the water focused the sun on my macula (geelvlek) has caused degeneration and you can actually see the black area on the photos.  It happens in an instant if blue light from the sun is focused on the macula... it might get worse later...  Anycase wear the sunglasses put on the sunblock and protective clothing.
Men... what lies ahead on that beach... IMMORTALITY.... TAKE IT IT"S YOURS!!!!!!

I'm such a Soutie that when I was growing up, I'd get down to the E.Cape on holiday and after the first day, I'd go down with sunstroke and have to spend the next day recouping indoors... consequently learned well that the sun and I are not mates. Always fish in long shirts, buffs and factor 50.

That being said, got myself totally fried on Saturday because I set off to work outdoors, forgetting my sunblock because of a babalaas
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

I had a carcinoma cut out my back last week, was told by the skin dude if a problem they will contact me so far I haven't had any report back so must be clear. Good luck Dodge. These skin dudes aren't shy to charge but its well worth it.
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

we got the biopsy report and it is a carcinoma and the have to take more flesh away, so I'mgoing into the Mulbarton clinic on Moday for the procedure. Luckily the carcinoma is not an agressive one so opefully they will get it all. The cut at the moment is about 30mm, and the surgeon reckons on opening up a 50 x 20 piece of my temple, all I need then is a bolt through through the neck
when I die, may my wife not sell my fishing tackle for what I told her I paid for it... and I have bought more, a severe case of TA

I had the procedure this morning and I was home in the afternoon, spent a couple of hours slering of the anesthetic but I feel ok. The surgeon is very happy and sure that he got it all so that's a positive.

Hi there all.
Hope all is  :ayb  with the opp Dodge?

Anyway I wanted to ask you guys if you have tried the XERODERM CAMO SPF 40, as promoted by Pedri on Hier gaan ons alweer.

I have noticed a huge bite ratio difference in my fishing if I apply "normal" sunscreen compared to if my wife applies it? Thus my hands are sunscreen free when handling baits etc...

Never used to notice it until a friend brought it up.

Did you experience the same or am I just going crazy?
