Jozini charter RIP OFF!!!
« on: November 02, 2016, 08:20:02 am »
Ouick rant!! A group of us are going up to stay at a lodge near Jozini and I was tasked with arranging a half day charter for 8 on one of the pontoon boats.....fook me, R6000!!!(4hrs) :unhap (it used to be R1650 two years ago) "but it includes rods, bait, skipper and petrol" he tells me........I tell him to fook off(well almost)
 - a half day charter off Durban costs R6000 for 6 and includes skipper, crew, rods bait and petrol for 2x 200's, trawling for 40kms ..... not for 1x 60 to go 4 kms to anchor and fish with sards and chicken livers!!!!
To put it into perspective, last December I charted a 40' sportfisher in Mauritius - it was for 6 full hours and included softdrinks and beer - R7000!!!

What I don't get is that these guys are battling with the water levels so low??? maybe its a case of "burn the fookers that we do get" swr <: :-( :cnfzd :unhap

I think most, not all charters are a rip off, feel sorry for okes who fork out big bucks and come back with empty hatches. Expensive trip to go for a cruise.

Unfortunately its aimed at the foreigners with dollars etc. There should be a different rate of SA residents.  :dunno:
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

Apart from a handful of good operators, I think the industry attracts a lot of fly-by-nighters who think that chartering will be an awesome way of life... getting people to pay you to do what you like doing most... Sadly, they mess it up for the good guys and although they don't last long, there's always another one to pick up where the last guys screwed up.

I don't think there is EVER a reason to smoke a situation... Just do honest value and you will stay in business for ever.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.

I agree. The prices are getting out of hand. I used to go on a charter in Mosselbay very regularly however the price in the last year more than doubled and I refuse to pay that money out of principle.

being south african i will have heart failure if i had to pay R6000 and no bilton supplied,
any american i would poop in their pants to pay 430 dollars and no donuts supplied,
every euro guy would pee themselves when asked to pay 400 euros and no bread and cheese supplied,
all britts would have a second hernia when asked to pay 352 pounds with no tea and biscuits supplied,
or have i missed the plot?
