Touw river or swartvlei might be a good idea with small kids with some prawn, pilchard or live bait but the mouth is still closed at the moment. You can also fish off the beach at Holiday inn just in front of the Views hotel and around the rocks at Flatrock. It's been relatively slow on the fishing side but there has been a couple of galjoen and the odd cracker being caught recently. The ever present blacktail are also at these spots. You won't go wrong if you can get your hands on some worm baits.

I have A small boy so I can tell you what worked for me.

You have to keep the action going otherwise they lose interest. Find a safe gully that is open to the sea preferable with some white water. Buy some good quality sardines or chokka for fishing. If you can get your hands on some old sardines at a discounted price get some of those too. Get some floats and small circle hooks (no6) at the tackle store. Use the back quarter of the sardine near the tail and cut it into small fillets. Cut the rest of the sardine and the old sardines if you got in small pieces and chum the gully before you start fishing.
Crush the barb on the circle hook to make sure the kids don't get hooked themselves. The float will help then not to get stuck. Keep the pieces on the hooks as small as possible. You don't want the fish to nibble.

Do not bother to fish yourself. You will be on baiting and fish removal duty. w;k

And that is how many fisherman are born. Good on you for taking time to get the kids involved.
