I've got a few of those cast master I'm sure there is 2 eyes missing on the 15 ft cast master there are 5 eyes on the rod
Not sure what the distances must be between the eyes from top to bottom - One 15 ft and 3 14 ft rods

Don't be concerned as to how many guides the rod was fitted with at the factory / is supposed to have.
Use as many as you need to achieve good static loading of the blank; no more no less.

I would suggest that most if not all rods of the age you are talking about were fitted with too few guides; this is borne out of rods being built to a price not to a performance level.

15' would be best with at least 9 guides, probably more to avoid the nasty line angles and line touching the blank under load.

Lets start a little tut on setting the rod up? Free advice. At least it will be a starting point from which you can fine tune. Might get some folks interested in how its done.

Inasmuch the OP was about the 15' rod, wondering if the 14' might be a better starting point in that it is a pretty commonly used rod length?
Either way its OK.
Couple of questions:
1. Assumption that rod will be used for a multiplier say a 40 or 50 size?
2. Mono dia to be used?
3. Leader set up and dia?
4. I don't have the cast rating of the Cast Master... anyone with some information?

Is it this rod?

Hi I am a new member and noticed your enquiry re 15ft Purglas Castmaster.I am a custom Rod builder in KZN and have rebuilt a number of these classic beauties There were a number of lengths by Purglas in the early days and guides from factory as follows 13 and 13ft6 had 7 guides 14ft and 14ft6 had 8
15FT AND 15FT6 had 9. All of the guides were fuji heavy duty. There was another set of lighter weight shorter Castmaster`s built at 11Ft however I believe only 10 of these rods were built and am the proud owner of no8 in my collection of 6 Castmaster`s

Those rods were back breakers but a must have with a Penn Jigmaster 500, then you were part of the elite gang, could throw a bay squid a mile. Mine is still in my garage.
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.
