grinder sliding
« on: March 03, 2016, 05:33:53 PM »
Has anyone tried sliding with a grinder/braid setup and with what success?..Im asking because I was fishing last night and there were no bites at all..so thought let me try cast and slide knowing I will probably be burnt off,but did it anyway...so with a huge cast I slide a bait out ...still said to myself if I get a pull that I should let the fish pull untill the slide is at my leader and stopper ring... Soooo..after 5min I get a lovely bite..in my excitement I struck and boom...braid parted..so the extra distance was the key to getting to the fish. How can this be done to prevent burn offs?

A circle hook and a dash of patience and it should work. Not my area of expertise at all, but reckon if you let the fish swim, then allow the circle to do it's job....

Ek sal dit nie aan beveel nie. Braid rek nie soos monofilament nie. Slide liewer met gewone nylon lyn dan braid.

It's controversial...

It's not easy because of the friction of the slide as you know, but Gerhard Guse (Protea angler) and Rudolf Scheepers do it regularly.
A thicker Braid leader is essential, as well as a shorter mono piece before the stopper ring. Knots need to be perfect too.

I was using 120lb leader with a 1m mono piece to stopper ring, only thing that could happened was the slide not being all the way down, will definitely try it again, felt really awesome with the braid

Apparently the slide does not go out as easily this leads to your slide hanging up halfway to the stopper ring. If the fish picks up the bait and swims out towards the stopper ring then this will be ok. However what happens when the fish moves parallel to the beach or 90degrees to your bait ?

had another go at it yesterday..this time my slide went all the way and i got pulled flat..fish almost pulled the rod out the stand but lost it due to the circle not setting...thsts the last time i use circles for sliding.cheers, :dunno:

sounds as if your drag was too tight, there should be litttle resistance from the reel to give the fish a chance to swallow the bait first...I've caught plenty  :grk: with just a single circle...
Always be humble...

drag was pretty loose could possibly have been looser but not confident with the circles so will try again with j hook
