Received an Accurate BV300 as a gift
« on: January 25, 2016, 05:49:28 PM »
Hi folks, I've been a spinning reel guy for the last 40 years! During this time I have used a couple of the Accurate Spinners which are extraordinary. I'm assuming this reel will equal or surpass the capability of the spinners. Since I'm not exactly dialed in with conventional reels I need some advice on the proper rod for this reel. It's so little that it almost looks like a novelty, knowing Accurate products it's clearly not a novelty! I'm planning on 300 yards of 40lb braid. I would like a 7' rod for use on my boat. Trolling for salmon and steelhead in AK and the PNW, and inshore fishing in the gulf for an example of target areas and species.I think this is a great addition to my fishing equipment!

JJ that Accurate looks like a great little reel! I know Accurate stuff is great quality, so you've got a gem there. Not being an Offshore fisherman, I can't really comment on the rod to pair with it, maybe one of the Offshore guys will chip in...

very nice reel whats the max drag it can handle i have the bx500 and used them with 10kg line and it was a DUFF as the drag could not maintain such light drags constantly, they have since sent me light line spools? at 150 dollars a pop which i still need to use. so match a rod that can handle the drag settings you are going to use and line you want to fill the reel with

Max drag is stated as 20lbs, however other claim that is quite conservative? The Specifications suggest 30b line 350 yards.

300 yards is plenty for my needs so I think 40b braid is an easier to handle diameter for my fat fingers! I can always use a 20b fluorocarbon leader which will save me getting spooled again.

My last inshore adventure had my wife hooked up to a blacktip shark unintentionally on a Shimano Stridec 4000 FK. She was spooled in about 12 seconds! 225 yards of brand new braid gone! I want my leader lighter then the mainline from now on!

Had she tried to stop that shark holding the spool, I believe the weak link would have been the rod! With my luck the line would have broken at the rod too, not t the fish end! so I would have still lost the majority of line and been finished anyway!

If you are based in the States look at the Shimano Terez range of rods they are great rods with good quality and there will definitely be one to suit your needs.

I'm back and forth all the time between RSA and USA

One down side to this lekker little bugger is no drag clicker.

I love the clicks ticking off when the bait is being taken with the rod in a holder. That sound slowly ticking off is one of the best things in life!

Surpassed only slightly by hearing it start to scream when you take the rod out of the holder! A shame to have left out that incredibly important feature in an otherwise beautiful little gem

the reels made to be in your hand when you are fishing a clicker isn't really necessary
