Eastern Cape Report & Updates Dec/Jan 2015/2016
« on: December 21, 2015, 08:50:22 AM »
Hi guys, hope all is well  :-) thought I would post some updates as I go along in the Eastern Cape... Have had a lot to sort out down here, so have not fished as much yet. Have thrown some spoons and fished some smallish baits...

So will keep you guys posted on the catches and happenings... I caught 4 Pinky the first session I did, all small, and surprisingly took quite big baits in the river.

Last night myself, Mrs Simpson and Half Pint met up to do a bit of non ed fishing. The mouth area where we normally fish was sanded up, and there were tons of peckers around, so things didnt look good. I had a pull and struck like an absolute idiot. Struck so hard the braid snapped  duh duh but then Brad managed to land a Barbel on a 8/0  :hehe: while Aimee went vas with a 5/6kg Blue Ray, stunning colours on this fish! Brad then went on with a Blue Ray that was easily 10kgs. Both fish were really fat... And then of course, yours truly, blanked as I normally do when fishing bigger baits...

So far the fish count is:

Pinky x4
White Seacatfish x1
Blue Ray x2

Wind is howling already this morning, but will hopefully get a gap to go gooi after work!

I don't mean to hijack this thread but is there any update on the red tide along the Garden route?

Thanks guys, wind is blowing 40ms+ today with some hectic gusts that I am sure are gale!

Sidd I have not heard anything regarding the red tide since last week, all I know is it hasnt hit Port Alfred and surrounds yet.

Thanks Kent, hope the red tide stays away, because we have some fishing plans now that the wind has died down!

No red tide at Kenton, Boknes or Kasouga strangely enough, dont know how it missed us. Got a chance to throw a line for a bit this arvie. Gav got a Shyshark I caught bugger all... Again. Wind was howling proper again, and looks the same for tomorrow.

Went to the Thomas Baines Nature Reserve today, the wind had been howling again and the red tide looks like it has officially arrived in Port Alfred, but still nothing at Kenton that I can see which is weird. Anyway, took the fly rod with and caught a few juvenile Bluegill, that came in different colours and pattern variations. They were extremely aggressive...

Fish count is still pretty dismal with the k a k weather etc. happening...

Pinky x4
White Seacatfish x1
Blue Ray x2
Brown Shyshark x1
Bluegill x10

There is a high chance there could be, because it has been around here, it looked like it was coming quite thick yesterday but seems to have dispersed a bit, soI dont know  :cnfzd

An update on the fish count (Gavin and a mate went up the Kasouga River for some Blue Kurper a few days back, and I caught a few smaller fish on fly)

Pinky x4
White Seacatfish x1
Blue Ray x2
Brown Shyshark x1
Bluegill x10
Blue Kurper x14
Cape Stumpnose x10
Cape Moony x13

Yeah no Sandies, the surf has been a bit crazy this side, with huge swells and strong winds...

And during this time of year the rivers are almost unfishable due to the boats... Will keep the reports coming not much to report on, have been doing stuff with my mother and Aimee for the last few days, and Gavin is also a bit tied up in Port Alfred... A slightly updated fish count:

Pinky x4
White Seacatfish x1
Blue Ray x2
Brown Shyshark x1
Bluegill x10
Blue Kurper x14
Cape Stumpnose x10
Cape Moony x13
Super Klipfish x1

So we had an awesome day up the Kasouga river, we nailed the Blue Kurper and they were thick, managed 18 in total all between 600 grams and 1.2 kilograms, also caught a few stumpies and moonies in-between. Gavin losts a springer on bucktail jog and he also managed a Blue kurper on artificial. Was a lekker day, strange that we are targeting freshwater fish at the coast LOL, but it was amazing!

Fish Count:

Pinky x4
White Seacatfish x1
Blue Ray x2
Brown Shyshark x1
Bluegill x10
Blue Kurper x32
Cape Stumpnose x16
Cape Moony x25
Super Klipfish x1
