Bajadam, Bronkhorspruit
« on: June 17, 2015, 10:51:13 AM »
Hi Guys,

With the weather being fairly good this weekend, I decided to try out Bajadam. It was my first time going there and I must say, although I blanked for the day, it was a very nice place to go to.

In saying that, the guys fishing to the right and left of us, did catch a few carp maybe around 2-4kgs. They had been camping and I think the secret to this dam would be to ensure that you create feeding spots.

For all you guys that take the kids and missus along, A great place for the family, established ablution and latrine facilities, however located at the entrance to the area. They have a jungle gym for the kids as well.

if you plan on going overnight, I have been advised by the very pleasant lady that collects the tarrifs that you need to bring your own extension cable, if you plan to camp near the dam, about 100m to the electrical points. Your alternative would be to pitch camp or caravan, about 100 -200m from the dam.

The only bad thing about this dam is the boats and jet-ski's. I can only assume that it would be worse in warmer weather.

Hope this helps. Sorry, cannot tell you what worked, as I caught naught. Maybe on my next trip.

Nice report back, have heard a bit about this venue. Unlucky on the blank. How many boats come past and how close do they come?

you have to remember that it is winter, so not that many over the weekend. they were maybe about 3-400m from the bank. one guy maybe closer. Must have been 4-5 boats that we saw and 1 jetski.

I have read somewhere that the Nature Reserve is almost without boats, but will confirm that when I go there, after July though.

Hi

I can confirm about the nature reserve side. My son and I went for the day on Monday (15 Jun) to the nature reserve side. First and foremost, the nature reserve side is very clean and to get to the water is very easy. There's been reports of watergrass etc, but I can confirm that this watergrass is no more.

We started our session at around 6:30 and by 15:00 we have caught 11 Carp despite it being winter. My son caught the biggest mirror carp between the 2 of us, weighing in at 3.0kgs.

This is really a nice place for the family or for a quick trip. Camping is also allowed and the rates are very cheap. Day visitors R22 per Adult and R11 per Child.

Definately worth a try.

Key to the dam from my point of view: Cast on the same spot and mix sweet and strong :sreel:

Hi aruthenberg, :welc:,

Thank you for the update. will definitely take the family along.

You mentioned the grass, that was one of the problems at the Bajadam side. when reeling in, you can get a bit caught up in it.

Also Bajadam is a bit more expensive - day trips R40 per adult, R30 per child (12-17yrs), R20 (6-11yrs), plus R20 per car.

Overnight - R50 per adult, R30 (12-17yrs), R20 (6-11yrs) and then R20 if you require electricity.

we used to fish the nature reserve side very often back in the day and it was an awesome venue might even consider fishing there again after aruthenbergs post the big plus is that the boats arent a issue that side

thank you guys, it was a mission trying to find recent info on the place. this info now really helps.

The place is only 45 mins from home and I had never been there before this weekend.
