Vidal in January
« on: January 14, 2015, 07:57:34 AM »
Ive been invited to camp with some friends who've been at Vidal since 3 Jan, they've been having some great fishing, dorries, cuta, wahoo so hopefully things stay that way. I also want to do some rock an surf while I'm there, anyone recommend a shop in St lucia where I can pick up some grapnels and other odds an ends on sunday?

The tackle stop at The engine garage is your best bet

There are two tackle shops in St Lucia, one at the Engen garage and one next to Dolphin Supermarket.

There is also a supermarket, think it's in Pelikaan street next to the butcher, they also sell some tackle, not a huge range though, still might be worth a look.

Sunday 18 Jan, headed off to Vidal with my wife and son (6months) for his first beach holiday/camping trip. We where joining some friends who had been there since 3rd Jan. Camp sites had started to clear out rapidly with school holidays coming to an end. Went for a throw on the beach in the evening in front of the campsites but not a whole lot happening. One of the guys got a +- 200kg raggie in the morning from the same spot on a live shad.

Launched on Off Season on monday morning and found plenty good bait and went off to fish the slides/lighthouse, Southwester had picked the sea up and wasn't to great. Got an 8kg cuta and then first time in my life I got seasick, Brian dropped me in the bay and I swam to shore he went back out on his own and picked up 4 dorado, including a double up. Claude on My Son got a +-55kg  :sailf:

Tuesday sea was still pretty lumpy but happily no sign of seasickness. No fish either and after the 4th shark we packed it in. Spring tide was really high and the water was almost reaching the dune where the boat trailers are parked, on the plus side it seemed to scour the bay out a fair bit with a lot more rocks becoming visible. Didn't launch on Wednesday.

Thursday wind had changed to a NE and sea settled a bit, went to deep veg and got a dorrie, kakaap and a size bonnie, about 8kgs. Skotene got a nice tunny. Friday started at the slides and soon ran back to deep veg as was very quiet. Had a dorrie triple up and got them all in,and another nice kakaap. Skotene a few cuta and Claude got another sailie. Slid a mackerel on the beach the Friday evening and missed a really good fish.

Monkeys were a menace but everything was secure so didn't cause us to much trouble, some of the other campers had a really hard time. The one night I didn't zip the tent up fully and something was charging around the kitchen area and next thing it came straight into my tent and luckily straight out again - a honey badger.

Packed up early on Saturday morning and hit the road home. Awesome week and the wife and lightie had a great time

Those badgers are tough and intelligent. Google Stoffel the honey badger for a good laugh.
My wife allows me to keep all the fishing tackle I can hide.
