Transkei - Coffee Bay/HITW
« on: January 08, 2015, 11:52:06 PM »
Hi UA - I hope I can get some information of the Transkei area.
I've been at Hole in the Wall - Coffee Bay and Mtata river.
I'm planning to go again in May - June. I've noticed that there is another river just below the HITW - Called Mpako river.
Have any of our anglers been to that river ? Is there any roads to that river ?
Is it save in that area and how is the fishing in that Area ?
Thanks
Henry

Just heard yesterday that I will be able to go on our annual men's trip down to Hole in the Wall in June. It is a stunning place, safer than most of JHB, provided you are not completely foolish.
There are some great fishing spots that offer a large variety for different types of rock and surf fishing, from light tackle to serious bring out the big rods stuff.
My opinion is to go with someone who knows the area, and understands how to fish that part of the coast. There is nothing to beat local knowledge.  Use a local gillie (not just the first kid who offers to carry your bag).

Thanks for all the info ! I did used an Gillie when I was at the Transkei.
I guess i will do it again even if it is just to look after the vehicle
Thanks Reefs for the PDF file of the Transkei - and  all the coordinates,
Did any of our anglers ever try to catch any fish between these 2 rocks (cliff) in the Transkei ? It look a bit dangerous
Attached is the photo of the place

Beautiful place! Never fished that hole from there, you can fish it from the queen. About 20 to 30m drop off.....! I don't recommend it , there are lots of "safer" spots to fish.

I agree, the fish from the Queen can be dangerous. I've been there before and i realized that when it's crowded it get more dangerous. I will also recommend to look for a safer place.

If you don't like the crowds, try Black Rock, which is the point about 3 km north of the Queen

bongeka.mvakade@dedea.gov.za she helped me last year. Be sure to have a fishing permit as she will need a copy along with the completed form. This sounds like a lot of  :nobs: but rather have a drive permit than getting caught with your pants on your knees.
