This thread has gone way to quiet!! What's happened? No fishing been happening? I've re-read this thread twice over. I'm waiting for the next few posts now!

Fish drought of note! Too much work and little time for spinning. And when I do get a gap I am having terrible luck with bad conditions and losing those single bites!;

Finally, a queen mackerel (natal snoek) for me again on spoon. Its been a while since my last snoek! My queen brought me some luck.

Got this fish on the 1.5 oz pink glow magic missile iron candy spoon right on the bottom in deep water before sunrise.

Greenspot (brassy) kingfish on a 60 g Z'Slow slow pitch jig in pink glow colour.

Got the bite in a huge swell, but with little side-current or surge. Shore slow pitch jigging is possible in rough sea conditions, provided the current is not strong. This is quite contrary to what we see in the YouTube videos, which are usually done in sea conditions as flat as a lake!

Fish safely released after the photo.

I went out last week sunday. Packed in 2 rods and reels, a 14 foot and an 8 foot and a spoon. Packed in my prawn pump and wader as well. Picked up a buddy and just took a cruise along the coast. Ended up on Macassar beach, it was quite busy as well. By this time I did not stop to get bait and though agh I will just stand on one of the reefs and throw the spoon out. As I was watching the water a fellow fisherman stops shouts something I could not make out. Headed over to him greeted and asked him if he doesnt have a muscle for me. Low and behold I get 2 hands full of moonshine and bloodworm. Well, I blanked, but had a great experience from this guys, I will never forget.

It's been ages since I caught something worthwhile to post on this thread. Just too much work lately. But during a recent session I had some good success with one of my favorite lures, the CID slimbait.

First I caught this 73 cm fork length shad (elf). This fish was tagged and released and followed by another two quality fish of different species.

On the next cast after releasing the big shad I hooked into this 55 cm fork length GT kingfish on the CID slimbait. Also tagged and released this feisty specimen. But the best was still to come a bit later in the session!

About an hour after landing the GT, and persisting non-stop with the CID slimbait, I got smashed by a very angry blacktip kingfish just behind the shore-break. This racing snake of 80 cm fork length stripped the 30 lb braid of my reel with tight drag setting like nothing! After an intense fight I landed the fish. Tagged and released this beautiful specimen after taking a quick photo.

The blue bucket with water in all the photos is used to keep the head of fish submerged in water to ensure strong releases. Very little time is spend with the head and gills exposed to air, thus keeping the fish as happy and calm as possible during handling on the beach where no rock pools are available to place the fish in.
