I agree with the above set-ups, just like to point out that sliding with braid is not really a good proposition. We use thick mono (.50 to .55 mm). You stand to get monstrous tangles with braid and the slide (it also does not 'hold' the slide as mono does to impart the 'non-return' function). The mono also helps in the fight, as the resistance of the line helps in the fight. The 'feedback' from the shark on braid is also very severe and tireing.

Very helpful tidbit of information bro! Would have made a bad a first impression on me if the clips would have not functioned properly 1st few times  haha

Ray,
I suggest you try and get hold of someone who stocks Purglas rods in California. Seems like William Booth is your go-to man. If you do a Google search on Purglas rods in the US you should find enough information on how to get your hands on one of these rods.

Purchasing legitimate slide rods is something I would like to do, once I get the experimentation of it out of the way, at the moment this all a trial run for these, for the most part, rather flat featureless beaches here in cali, if I really enjoy the technique, the casting, and results, those rods will definitely be the main option for me to try :tkx:

If your going to slide, you need some elevation, rather difficult to slide from flat beaches, although possible.
Lets go FISHING!

There are a few spots over here that have some rocky cliffs that I'd like to try this at for some tope, but I figure in some of the videos that I've seen that it is also possible on a flatter beach?

If you using a live bait it should be no problem at all, using a dead bait you'll probably have to work the rod a bit harder to get it out :dunno: but ive fished some flattish beaches before and have managed to get them out
its cruiser country

Ray,
This is where the beauty of the low reel seat position coupled with the right reel comes into play. With a bit of practice you can get up to 140 yards casting just a weight, then sliding a bait out to that distance. One of the links I posted was where the author was talking about not being able to fish the area succesfully in the past due to casting limits with the high reel seat position, but with the new setup, he was able to easily fish those areas.

Ohhhh kelp and grass are no good . You'll end up loosing all your end tackle .

Just a note on the flat beaches , sliding a bait out is very possible but takes a bit of confidance you will do it easily then , but like the guys mentioned first get ' the hang of sliding  ' from a steeper area  .
Good luck

When sliding on flat beaches, use the current to help. Stand up current and let the rip take your slide in. Straightening up as it goes out.

You can also , make your slide trace a bit shorter  when fishing from flat beaches .
