It's the first fishing outing I've had to report on in ages, and after feeling how cold the water was on Saterday morning and all the blue bottles washing and lying around I thought that it's going to be a pointless exercise...friends and us visited their parents house in Boggomsbaai on Saterday and went armed expecting a good fishing weekend with friends and family, with some

too.The Saterday high-tide was at 12:30 p.m.,so I went for a little bit of a spin. The Easterly wind was miserable and casting into it not nice either...I,not surprisingly blanked, and donated 2 Halco twisties(copper & chrome)to some rocks in the process...

I decided that I should call it quits as I had lost my leader and powerswivel too and played some swingball rather...

We eventually left to go light the fire and have some drinks and

The plan was to go look for my spoons early Sunday morning,as low was at about 07:00 a.m...I eventually got up at 08:00 after my mrs. forgot to set the alarm...
I rushed down to the beach only to find that the water wasn't low enough anymore,I braved the cold water for a while but had to call it quits as the tide was pushing.I went home to a hot cup of tea and some breakfast...The Easterly wind had also died down a bit early a.m. but the water was still very cold.We eventually went for another fishing mission at about 10:15 as high was at 13:00.I left the spinning outfit at home and opted for some pillies and chokka on my Poseidon 5 and Fathom,to target some Kob as the water had a nice colour even if cold...we made a few casts at the one spot, but there was a bit too much current pulling first to the right and then to the left...

So we decided to move to one of my favourite spots, where I've caught a decent variety too(Bellman,Blacktail,Galjoen, white Stumps, kob, leeries)I tried for a while with no bite so I moved a bit further towards Vleesbaai to a spot that looked better to me...baited up with the pilchard and chokka combo clipped it and casted the 6ounce grapnell...by now I was really just staying to satisfy my 2 sons' urge to fish,so not expecting anything to happen I placed my rod in the rodholder to relieve myself, barely finished I looked up at my rod-tip and saw the telltale sign of a fish munching on my bait,as the rod tip dipped and bounced...almost wetting myself and forgetting to zip up again I quickly grabbed the rod and waited for it to dip again, but nothing...reeled in and baited up again.Just before casting again,I had to untangle the line from the tip and in doing so unclipped the sinker from the hooksnoot unknowingly, but noticed when I casted,so I didn't get the same distance,so reeled in again to cast properly and more importantly on the same spot as earlier when I got the bite.I waited a while and then felt a nibble again, next thing this fishy took the bait and the hook was set...it ended up being a nice sized Blacktail of 39cm(+-1,9kg) caught on pilchard and chokka mix on a 7/0 Bandit hook...

I've caught similar sized ones before but never measured those,so this will have to be my p.b. then...
sorry for the long report to only show a
