Oil on your line
« on: June 30, 2014, 08:09:47 PM »
Ok I have just serviced and oiled my reels both for offsore and R&S. My question is while servicing my reels I would get oil or grease on my hands and then touch the spool, does this not effect the fish biting and if so how do you guys overcome this?

In my opinion - I would not believe so.
After a few casts, the oil or grease will rub off anyway.

What about masking tape glue on your line? Will it not have an impact on your casting distance?  :crzy :creep: :creep:

I reckon masking tape on the spool will seriously impact the casting distance ... :rotfl

I agree, Mike. The residue is going to clog up your rod eyes. I would rather take all the line off first and then re-spool after the service.  :lolo:

Even better way of doing it is by using plumbing tape to cover your line... no glue.

Glad wrap might also work.

I am saying it will not matter .

Years ago , wen I still fished Bass , we fished Clanwilliam , we had a loooong day on the water , and well had long chats .

Back then there was assorts of scent and today even more the of 'attractant' you can use on your baits worms / lures . Spike it , Spraglic and Scent [the Scent was a potent Garlic Aerosol can . And the Spike it , you still get today , don't get that on your boats carpet , its also a pungent Garlic 'flavour'  Berkley also had a few similar products .

We all had some of them , and even some of use made our own home made doepas, We boiled vaseline and threw in Garlic boiled it a while , and wiped it on our Finesse worms , and Cattipilar Grubs on light mojo rigs , worked like a BomB.
BUT

Long story short .
Most of use believed in the scents and getting more bites .
Then an well know angler , who's into Rock and Surf too , dropped his worms and lures into the Petrol tank and continued to catch fish , the petrol odour seemed to have no difference . I think he only did it to prove a point but still ....

I really think the amounts of oil on your reel or line will never be enough to point that as the problem ...

Oil is good, lubricates the line and eyes, better casting distance. Also try a good marine grease  :creep:
