Willie, concern for your safety is why I didn't suggest that you come fish on our side, now we know why.
I am not from there, but normally boat club is quite safe and the jetty in strand sometimes has a few characters around, but not too bad.
Maybe start a new post with time and place that you intend to fish and see if some of the local guys respond, maybe you can hook up with them. just a suggestion.  :tite

WOW I went to the old harbor in Gordons Bay last night armed with a 8ft Jarvis Walker Pick and Pay special my Shimano Sienna 4000 spooled with 2.1 Kg mono Sardine baby Squid and Mussels for bait. At the harbor I was a bit nervous going out onto the breaker wall to the end as there was nobody else. I asked the people that was there at the harbor if I can fish at the harbor where the boats are moored. They had no problem and I felt comfortable as there were quite a few people and the place is lit up good.
Used baby squid on my first cast and nothing happened so after about 15 minutes reeled in and bait up with a whole little baby squid. Not long and I could feel action some nice head shakes and the next moment vas. I caught a little shark of about 30 cm. My first fish in the Cape waters. Nice action on  the light set up. So very excited I changed my bait to sardine. Wow I cast in and after a few minutes bang and the little sienna was screaming. I realized whatever is on there is to big for my set up  :hehe: .  I slowly fastened the drag but eish it just keeps on picking up revs. The next moment snap my line parted and the fish was gone.
What a great time I had today I am spooling with .30 mono and will be back there tonight.

So last night back to the same spot. Fished from 9pm till 11:30pm. Nothing but he place was full of juvenile fish. The moment the bait hits the water a squadron will attack the bait. I also see a lot of jumping fish so I think it would have been ideal for spinning. Will give it my last try tonight as tomorrow I am on my way back again. Just need to add it was freezing out there.

I like mussel bait, you can catch a wide variety of fish on it and I have taken some big Galjoen on it in the past.  :hnthnt:

Nice Gunnard Willie.

:win: Is it a bird...is it Plane...nope,but like a Plane/Bird this fish also comes kitted out with wings for Willie to make a safe Gurnard Landing :hehe: .Pleased you had some CT fun,Will, :cgrts: .
Perhaps you were more fortunate than I was with your gurnard catch?

I always cut my hands on these Gurnards, with their spikey heads doing the damage when trying to release the hook.Really beautiful prehistoric type fish, and the big Gurnards make a good meal when we caught them amongst the Stockfish(Hake),and skates from Waterfront's East Pier/Breakwater.Great memories as Gurnard was one of my 1st catches when 1+1/2 bricks high to a tickey.

Very wise to stick around that area,as your time restraints for post 5pm fishing would've meant fishing in darker areas where not only spots are treacherous, but the drive as well,if on the road after dark. And Harbour walls are well lit up for security reasons. Not sure how safe CT areas are now,as anglers even need to take care they don't shoot each other since murder at Gunnery.Everyone is packing, and ready for action.

Got 3 Marketing Projects all going into field with our Market research teams simultaneously,so haven't been near the water for 3 weeks. But nice to see others catching fish.

We may need some lessons when you return,Willie.

Cheers

I doubt the lesson part  :hehe: . Gordons bay is a great fishing place for the evening I think you can pick up big flatfish and sharks  and it is safe which is great. Cannot wait for my next trip.
