I guess you should check with South African Maritime Authorities as in theory they are the ones issuing the number for your vessel
I say in theory cause the country maritime authority normally is the authority that register and control the issuing of MMSI numbers

So i've completed the new VHF Dsc course and got my temporary VHF Dsc certificate from SAMSA.

I've transfered my old VHF license over to my new VHF Dsc radio with ICASA

Now I've just communicated with Cape Towns ICASA branch with a Mrs Jackie Le Roux to apply for my new call sign and MMSI Number.

Has anyone been issued a MMSI number yet and how long does it take for them to process your number.

The VHF Dsc radio cannot be used unless the MMSI number has been programmed into it

Hi. May I ask what procedure you followed to get your MMSI? I have phoned every number on the ICASA website, and they all go to either voicemail; or unanswered.

Thank you in advance.

I see your phone every number and raise you visiting their offices in centurion. I was foolish enough to go just are 15h00 so apparently everyone had left. I had foolishly allowed my renewal to lapse and just elected to pay the renewal to Icasa and show the POD to the Safety officer for the COF. Like most government depts, ICASA seems totally bereft of competence, or anyone that actually gives a toss.

I to did not pay my license fee by the due date and had my license cancelled. What a huge rigmarol to have it renewed and to keep my same MMSI and call sign.
I'll be paying for the 5 year license in march so as not to go through that story again.

Afternoon Michael,

Regarding the renewal of your MMSI License Fee, can you please publish the banking details and possible contact person at ICASA that you dealt with....

My existing 4 year MMSI License expires at the end of March this year.
Certainly don’t want to go through the pain you did whereby they cancel my Licence...

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Your MMSI number and call sign are for life.
When you don't pay your license on time they now do not give any leeway and immediately cancel your license.
When paying initiation fees and your annual fees they keep your same mmsi number and call sign, but your VHF license number changes.
You can pay your VHF license at any post office
Alternately find ICASAs banking details attached
