What is Die Dam like?
« on: November 16, 2013, 12:11:15 pm »
Hi all.
Been looking on Google earth and found Die Dam. It is between Pearly Beach and Agulhas. The photos make it look really nice but how is the fishing there? What kind of fish can one expect to catch? Are there lots of blacktail or other gully fish? Is it a decent steenbras spot or is it more sharks?
Thanks in advance

Hey david

Die dam is a great spot...you can park at the entrance and walk. Summer after some good SE you will get nice cob and elf...first set of rocks on the right as you get onto the beach. Also pump prawn at uilenskraal on the way through...all the regular reef species are there. Good steenbras and cracker as well...use prawn or redbait found there...works very well for all species. Just walk and fish, wakk and fish...beach with broken reef sections...you will generally get something if conditions are half decent. Enjoy!

fished "die dam"personally knew it as "de Dam", a couple of times when I lived in C.T...good spot for most species(edible and in-eds)I usually fish for eds but a friend of mine caught a huge black pylie there(first rocks on the righthandside)nice gullies between the reefs, cast across to opposite reefs with anything from coralworm,moonshineworm,pinkprawns,redbait,chokka-pillie combo,prawn-chokka combo, bloodworm etc.you can expect to catch gallies,kob,steenies,white-stumpnose,zebra,kolstert(blacktail),hottentot(bronze bream)really miss that place and you won't make a mistake by going there... w;k let us know how it went there... :fshn:

Thanks. Sounds like a really nice spot. Question 2; Do you think it is worth taking fishing kayaks there or just stick to shore based angling?

Kayak man , theres a small group of guys in Struis that fishes that section often with Kayaks  ,they do very well , Kob and BIG geelbek  like Proper Geelbek . they ussually fish just outside casting range from the side . And those big Geelbek , hit lures too !
Big Raggies there too ,

Theres actually a bunch of places where you can fish there ,not only Die Damme , but the Container , Walle , Grafte Vars water , these spots are between DD and Brandfontein . ENJOY !

Great for kayak fishing.  Many near-shore rocks and reefs in a fairly protected bay. When we were there in Dec last year fishing was slow but Elf came out.
