New micro season
« on: September 06, 2013, 03:42:50 PM »
Hi

The last time I checked. about 2 weeks back, none of the micro species have 'woken up' yet from their winter lethargicness ...

Going out this weekend to see if I can catch a few. Will also be trying out my new 'el cheapo' telescopic pole I got from a China shop - it should work a charm for dipping for micros. Will target mosquito fish, vlei kurper and dwarf kurper. If all else fails I'll try for some bigger bass and barbel.

Will let you all know how it went.

Cheers

So, I dipped around for about an hour on Saturday only to catch one dwarf   kurper. This dam is usually swarming with micro species like vlei   kurper, dwarf kurper and mosquito fish.

Here's the lekker fat dwarf I caught. Rigged a small white Sada ball lure on an Owner tanago hook.

Very pretty coloured fish

Used my new & cheap (R50.00) Chinese copy of a Japanese tenkara rod.   It's telescopic and folds down to just 51cm, but can extend to 3.6m and   all the lengths in between.

It's easy to just pop into my backpack and take out when needed.

I attach a small length of line to the rod's lillian (the piece of   string on the tip). To this line I attach a small clip onto which I just   clip different pre-made traces as needed.

The rod has a very sensitive tip, so even small species feel 'bigger' ...

Also managed to pick up a 800g bass on a weightless junebug creature bait, using my normal spinning outfit.

Cheers
