This may helphttp://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=1699.msg215463#msg215463Now that is a dream fish!
Dont thank me - this was an article done by Reefman. I am sure somebody will be able to help you shortly!
Hi TomateroAs far as I'm aware, the Ratchet is fixed to the spool shaft, it cannot be removed.I read with interest that you're targetting sharks with this reel? This reel, the Daiwa SL50SH was not really built to withstand the forces of shark fishing - it has Graphite frame and side plates, it will eventually break.Much better reels to choose from the Daiwa range are the Saltist 50H and the Saltiga 50HK. These are full metal reels, frames and spools, and are built to withstand the forces. If you're looking for distance casting reel, then get the Daiwa Grandwave 50 - it has a fully disengaging spool shaft and pinion for perfect casting - but it is also not a Shark reel, as it is also Graphite. The way we fish for Sharks in South Africa is by "sliding" - cast a sinker out and slide big bait down the line. Check out this section: http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=3128.0

Check out this section: http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=3128.0Incredible ténica. I'm shocked. Always haul bait but with the bait clip in the set. Always was losing very many meters and used a very small bait. Be so kind, to tell me a store where I can buy the "no return slide clip". It's really fantastic.Thank you very much, you taught me something that really is not used in Argentina.I have no words.thanks

He also makes excellent Wind-on leaders. http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=6245.0Best reels for Sliding are: Daiwa Saltiga, Shimano Trinidad, Penn Torque, Daiwa Saltist, Shimano ToriumBe careful about taking a cheaper reel and pimping it with Carbontex (increasing the Drag capacity etc)... the reel structure was not designed for the extra force, for example the Gears (Pinion and Drive gear) are not designed for the strong force, they are cheaper quality and something might break! Also, the SL50SH does not have a backup Anti-reverse bearing, which might become a problem with wear and tear on the Ratchet gear. The SL50SH will handle a few Sharks in the 50kg range, but sooner or later, the reel mechanics will fail.
Our Dorado / Mahi Mahi looks way diffrent.
Wow nice fish
Quote from: Lenny on August 07, 2013, 10:06:42 AM Our Dorado / Mahi Mahi looks way diffrent.Hi Lenny, these days I will contact you by private message to see if I can send some gear. The Mahi Mahi Fish is one of my dreams. It is true that they are very different, the Dorado is a river fish, come to weigh 30 kilos. It is a born hunter, stalks its prey between rocks and jumps like a torpedo when passing guard.Someday I'll be fishing and hunting for their country, is a debt that I have with myself for many years.Thank you very much for your comment.
If you would have me to recommend a reel to load more than 300 meters of 0.50 and throw between 100 and 150 meters. What would? Thank you.

Thank you.Any of the reels I mentioned above will take approx 300m of 0.50.But you should do what we do in SA... load your reel with 500m of 50lb (0.3mm) Braid backing first, then put 150-200m of nylon 0.5 on top of that. Now you have 700m line capacity.
Using braid as backing increases spool capacity dramatically... from 300m to 700m.The braid is MUCH thinner than the nylon. When you cast, you're casting the nylon, not the braid. Underneath the nylon is the braid. When you replace your nylon, you only change 150-200m each time, instead of a whole spool of 600m. The braid stays on the spool for 3 or 4 years.Thin diameter braid is much thinner than the nylon, it doesn't get "heavy".Guys help me here... anyone speak Argentinian?
