Am report on our East Coast from Gonubie to Kei

  fishing has slowed down a lot , even our once or twice trips a year are becoming difficult , and when we go we hope we strike it lucky with conditions etc...

  ..Jip it is so...BUT...Ive now been following the systems coming up/past the South Americas and through Roaring Forties and I tell you waht they are looking good and steady as far as a format of sorts is concerned...


If the 3 systems off of the Cape coast holds true to form , we here on our East coast are in for a cracker jack of a weekend...from Wednesday onwards it will be interesting to see ...

  Ja..good stuff Colin....what I see , as Ive said , coming up/along our coast really does look promising...


Its not so much the wind OR cold conditions BUT the really unpredictable seas that have prevailed here over the last 10 months...been really upside down and it always seemed to be as the weekend approaches...BUT ,,the past 2 weekends have not been bad at all ..so lets see going forward

  Mornings Folks...well , when one sees a synoptic like this and then a windguru prediction like this ...Lets just say I havent been this keen to fish in a VERY long time....got really good tides for this weekend early AM outgoing and what looks to be a very good westly swell running and a high pressure ridging in late Saturday evening..


Water looks really fine this side so far and with a stiff west for today and tomorrow and then slowing fro Thursday through to Friday with very light air for Sat and Sunday AM as that baro climbs steadly....BLIKSIM!!!...It really is stacking up nicely...


From tomorrow 16h00 onwards will be the confirming cherry on the top....

  Mornings Folks...well , as we look at this colour synoptic predicted path of the two systems cruzing along our coast and this is for Saturday AM at 04h00...that high is situated beaut off of CT and that ISO bar at 1014hpk and its still climbing ...of note around the EL area and surrounds is that light air....


This morning I checked the water locally off of Gonubie and its a good colour , a tad grubby in places but cleaning up nicely..


The temp is a tad chilly at 16 , but should come up a few degrees by the weekend...lets see what the next 24 hours brings...

  ..Mornings Folks..WELL..If EVER there was a weekend you need to go fishing IT IS this weekend...well at least along our Jikeleza....you have light air for tomorrow and Sunday morning and the beastly eastly comes blasting through at around 10h00 as that baro peaks out at 1023hpk and then turns as that next low pressure approaches...


Tides are really BEAUT with a low at 07h04 tomorrow and then at 08h09 on Sunday , and as the locals know the Jikeleza fishes well on an outgoing tide AND it coincides with an early AM....


Bulugha ,, Glen Gariff ledges...Cintsa point(shad are coming) ..even a walk to Rooiwalle towards Haga would be a good call...thats some pristine untouched coastline right there....


I will be on my local Gonubie spot tomorrow AM and then a trip out to Bulugha point is on the cards for Sunday am early...


Well Folks ...thats it for the time being and lets see some pics after the weekend..

  Got down to my spot that I call Devils this morning 05hoo...I noticed with a low at 08h00 , the water was still actually very full...so I sat a bit and had a coffee and watched the water for about half n hour and noticed a strange "pull" on the water ...not a surge as such BUT rather a pretty strong ground swell running , although the sea was pretty flat and when the waves did come in the sets they were quite strong for the size of the sea , which was small by all accounts....


From throw one I felt rattatat tap on my spoon and thought ..oh boy..small shad ...small shad equals SIZER kobbie!!


I landed n released about 10 or so very small shad (sorry no pics but I throw off of a very wet pinnacle)....If you look at the pic attached , in the middle you will see two pinnacles right next to each other , thats where I wade/swim out to....Walkerskiller mate Gavin has fished with me off of that pinnacle...


Anyhow , I threw all around the strike zone and not one enquiry from a kobbie...conditions were/are perfect...water colour. Temp outgoing tide bait fish rising baro very slight west wind ..BUT..just no kobbies...Sooo..this arvie will be back there AND tomorrow AM before that east gets up to speed....

 Let me share with you what my morning was like this morning from 04h30 to 08h00😊..Im up and my stuff packed for an early AM fish...no wind..super clean water that is also super warm at around 23...I get to my spot and as that first sliver of silver light that shows like Obi Wans light saber in the dark..😎..
I start my session and one hour in I suddenly notice 2 heads pop up in front of me...2 otters...they check me out and move off and then I spot another 2 and another 2...these guys were catching mullet after mullet....what a great sight!!!...time for coffee and after a quick break Im back on my rock to fish more...not to long I see a HUGE group of dolphins🐬..slowly cruzin by and I decide to hop in the water just 20 odd m off from the rock I was standing..sea was small and absolute beaut to bob around as the dollys were going past....Im about to get out and to my right I see a very triangle fin and NOW its time to get out ..I climb back onto my rock and a few moments later ..some 15 m off from my rock this juvie GW comes slowly cruzin past...could see him as clear as daylight in the gin clear water...Smiling I think how blessed I am to see this...not every day you see a GW this close..🐟..Im now thinking ..WHAT A MORNING!!!...AND..adding to that the 10 or so Kingfishers I saw earlier fishing in the shallows...I go back to where my bag is to have some more java and as I put my glasses back on I happen to look up and about 400m off shore I see a pod of Orcas🐳..WELL...I just sat down and took it all in...
Folks...you wanna treat your kids...kick them outta bed early and go watch the sea....You never know your luck!!!😉😊😎..You may get blessed just as I was!!!
