Improved Albright Knot Braid - Mono
« on: April 11, 2013, 10:25:10 AM »
Hi guys, what do you think of this knot? Looks a lot quicker to do than the BRAID TO LEADER KNOT - 7 turn UNI with Fig 8?

The Modified Albright is an OK knot, but slips too much in my experience with Fluoro and lighter mono leaders. The way they do it in the Video is to put on an "activator", then something like UV Knot strength... eish, that's like wayyy too much trouble! I'll stick with the 7 turn Uni - Fig 8.

Cool  :tkx: so without the adhesive it slips quite easily?

The seven turn uni to fig 8 is pretty quick to use and I haven't had it fail yet since December that I started using it. WK if you looking for a quick knot to do, use the Spyker.

The Uni - Fig 8 sits like Sh@t to a blanket , IMHO the best braid to mono knot .

I use the uni - fig8 for backing braid to mono ( main line).

main line is 0.4
leader 0.7

What knot(s) should I be using to join my main line mono to the leader?

Double fig 8, just keeps on failing.  ( I might be user error  :dunno: )

Ideally, you should be doing a Bimini twist in your mainline first to make a double, then joining to your leader with the Double Fig 8.... http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=67.0

You can also get away with doing the Spider Hitch instead of the Bimini...

Very unusual for a Double Fig 8 to fail...? Sounds like you might be burning the line when cinching the knot. Make sure you SUPERlube (plenty gob) the knot before you form it, and then again before you tighten it.,

I use the mod albright a lot and love it. I can't recall ever having had one slip except in the days when I used long leaders and would cast through the guides. Snugging up the knot is the critical factor in making it. If you do that progressively and carefully then it's a strong and slim knot.

It's also the knot I use with Nanofil to leader.
Forgive me Father for I have spinned... It's been three weeks since my last cob session.
