Reefz's Not So Silent Assassin
« on: February 10, 2013, 05:58:54 PM »
Just after Christmas Tony brought me his Assassin for a revamp.
He was not sure what exactly he wanted, but he wanted something in the line of a bling rod. We went through a catalog filled with components and I made some suggestions, we also discussed a theme for the rod and we both concluded that the Gospel Kurper would point the way as this is the same symbol he uses in his avatar.

This is what the rod looked like before I stripped it.

Specs of the new rod build

Blank : Assassin 5-6oz Medium HMG
Paint : Three stage paint, Candy Apple red.
Guides : Flip Down as the first in a size 25, the rest is Fuji HBSG with SiC inserts in Gunsmoke finish from #20 down to #12 with a matching Tip Top and a ring size of 16.
Thread : Gudebrod Scarlet in D with a red metallic spiral trim
Grip: Standard EVA sanded down a bit
Hook Keeper: 2mm Natural Anodized Aluminium Fish Head and Gospel Kurper lazer cut. Note the keeper is secured between the grip and the Fuji Trigger Seat.
Decal : Digital Printed on Clear Vinyl and applied onto Coarse Silver base of Candy Apple.
Reel Seat : Fuji Deluxe Trigger Seat
Wooden Butt and Stainless Ring : This was the original I just sanded down and treated with a Standox Clear Coat.

Warning this is a Photo heavy thread, I mean how am I supposed to choose between these pics?

After Pics....

I don't believe that you can capture the brilliance of the colour on a photo, this is one of those that you just have to see with your own eyes, but I sure tried getting the best of angles for you with my mik and druk.

Thanx for looking

Koos, as I said yesterday, you've outdone yourself! Outstanding result... something absolutely unique, that will be treasured for many years and perhaps even become a family heirloom. Wonderful craftmanship with excellent attention to detail, just oozes.... Reefz!! Can't thank you enough for something that already has become quite special in my little existence! Very proud of my "old" Assassin!!

Now is not a good time to go fishing... said nobody... EVER!!

Tony, when you dropped it off in December, I never thought in my wildest dreams that your rod would look like this. I do recall standing next to the rod last week while it was busy drying on the dry rack and I just stood there in disbelieve, yes I had an idea, but the end result just blew me away. I would catch myself going to bed, waking up and standing next to the dry rack in the middle of the night, doing nothing but staring at it.

This was just one of those that worked out perfectly from the start and what a ride it has been.

Interesting story... I've had this dream of pimping a rod for many years now. A few years ago, I commissioned a famous rodbuilder in Margate to pimp a Pentagon Heavy - same instructions as I gave Koos... you've got Carte Blanche... do whatever you want to make it as unique and as bling as possible. Suffice to say that the Rod turned out a sickly brown colour and was actually flippin' ugly! I sold it to Kumz a few years ago, I think he still has it?

Koos is a true perfectionist, with a creative flair that makes it possible to create unique items, works of art... with an added professionalism and most importantly to me, a good healthy splash of class! I am a bit of a stickler when it comes to prefectionism, so I have no hesitation in recommending this fellow if you need something really special done!

Now is not a good time to go fishing... said nobody... EVER!!

Reefs, congrats on getting something that superbly done, you are allowed to feel extremely proud and so should Koos. Koos Very very well done, looks like the rod has a shimmer of pearl in it, it looks GREAT!!!! If ever I need something like that done or hear of somebody, you know who i'll get in touch with!

Kumz, you could always have it revamped, with specific instructions of being painted pink and then give it to Homie as a prezzy!! Will go lovely with his Jeep!!

I've spent many long days and nights fishing on some remote coastline with Tony and his beloved Assassin which started looking the worse for wear from being fished hard , and i tell you that has got to be the best looking Assassin out there at the moment and i think for years to come , Koos your skills and attention to detail are amazing and im sure Tony is going to be one chuffed angler on the beach with that masterpiece you have breathed new life into .....and heres the good part im more than likely going to be present the day he  gets his 1st take on that Assassin .....
