umdoni this morning
« on: January 27, 2013, 02:34:07 PM »
So i was up at 4 and on the rocks 5.. The chaps fishing postal were also there swr (taking up space)..  Things started slow, but i managed a good stumpie, i hardly unhooked the fish and there were 5 jackasses around me again....  swr ..  Now undoni has one area to slide, these guys were all over that spot, catchig nothing... Eventually they decide to scratch and the rocks open up.. i bang a sinker 140m and slide a size bonnie head....  half hour later i go away with a good blacktip. Almost emptied my trini30 ( had maybe 50m on the reel when i turned it)... Hour and a half goes by, fish settles, I turn around and now the league chaps are all getting there slides out, sinker out 10m from me.. Long story short, fish shoot into the closest guys line ( im trying to get it into a bay just south), and during sorting that mess out, i get cut off... <: , by this time im ready to kill the dude..  I clearly out fished them, but they a pest! take up the whole rock and as soon as you get fish they like ants..

Im seriously starting to question how ethical the "league " anglers are aswell. Saturday after junior nationals, the rocks were a absolute mess, full of crap. Alot of the locals were angry. I have witnessed twice now, the guys fish compo and the gaffs come out... Late last year i saw 4 hammers and 5 rays get gaffed off umdoni in one morning, not "fin prick", but mid body/head gaff shots, the rays were also just gaffed any were. I 100 % guarantee you that those rays died, they were gaffed mid body and lower towards the kidneys.. Today again a ray got gaffed :dunno: :dunno: ..

There is my moaning for the day!!!! :vio

If you can remember the club then take it up with the Union. Its sad that thing went that way.

Morning Bryant.

I am a league fisherman and I am really sorry to hear what happened.
You are right, there is no need to fish the way they did.
I believe that when you fish weather it is league or not treat your fellow fisherman with respect.

Like Fritz said if you can remember the club or even if you can’t report it to the union so that can look into it.

In the same breath I must say that: They are fishing comp and their is a lot at stake for the chaps. The moveing up and down and casting where you were with the stumpy I can understand to a degree. But being the cause of you loosing your shark, Thats really not called for.
I would say that when you see the guys on a spot like that fishing comp, then rather just not fish the spot.

Eish Bryant, that is very annoying. It isn't cool to crowd someone when he is fighting a big fish, no matter whether there is a comp on or not. Even less cool to leave a mess on the rocks. I hope that you got the name of the club and contacted them about that. Clubs should insist that their members clean up after themselves when they fish a spot!

How far out was your fish when you where fighting it in the bay to the south?
The time you were cut off, was this because of a nother angler or was this because you where stuck on the bricks?

Fitz i know you were cc'd, not sure why though......THE CHAPS WERE NICE GUYS, I EVEN GAVE THE ONE BUGGER A SHAD, look its a small thing in my life, i have pulled plenty of sharks, and i really dont have time to talk to unions, i have better things to do...    Just voicing my frustrations...    And for record,  i felt my line touching something, i suspected it was the line around my line,,,, but it was actually  both, rock and line ( was very deceiving )....  I have taken lots of fish at umdoni and lost a few 2,,,   would i have got the fish if there was no body there,,,,,, maybe, maybe not...

i fish to enjoy myself, i have a issues with guys cramping rocks and taking over.. These guys were nice guys, but its the way guys in a league operate, they tend to take over a spot...... If offence was taken i apologize .

Absalutely no ofence lad, the reason for me being cc'd in that mail was because those guys used to fish for me. And they where told that I said to take it up with the union. I also phoned them as soon as I saw the mail to find out what was going on.
We must also remember that when its time to fish comp and the time has been called then you must fish. You only have a few hours to make up some points and then its over. You cant stop half way and fish the remainder of the time later. They also not going to move away because a non competative angler has arived their.
It is adviseable to rather move to a nother spot when the guys are fishing comp, things like this are bound to happen.

Fritz CC you into the mail...

Chaps i have issues with league anglers, sure thats no secret now( thats from previous bad experience).... I did unleash a bit on the guys, they were not bad chaps, just the league effort gets to me..

Fritz knows who the guys were, i think i maybe overstepped my mark and i apologize for that, was venting at their expense, i was a bit  :unhap :unhap :unhap  when the guys slid next to me during a fight, but they were not bad chaps.....  I know the thats how competetive angling is, and thats why i left that scene...

So ya, i apolagize to those buggers..

On a seious note, the club that was gaffing fish in november was a Margate based club if im correct (not gona name), they had a few seasoned fisherman who i used to look up to... They in my opinion desrerve to be given a lashing...
