Another shocking session, went on the ski early morning, fished a spot well known for big grunter and 3-4 kg kob, we caught 3 Stumpies 18-22cm, no kob, no Grunter, and then to top it all off, the  swr ski started to sink, we had somehow lost 2 plugs for the back of the baot and it was taking water in quickly, we were thankfully towed back by some other guys fishing close by, who saw us disappearing into the prawn bank mud faster than our ski was sinking.

Sooooo bleak with the fishing, time to drown our sorrows, so far 47 fish in total, 10 species and only 3 or 4 between 500g and 800g  :unhap :shk and thats not because we have been fishing small baits or unproductive areas.

I don't know what's happening here, reckon I've lost my touch a bit. We fished a very secluded area yesterday in a reserve which I got permission for. We were fishing a day after spring and fished from before low and with the push. If I said we got 3 bites I would be lying. Managed to get the freshest chokka and prawn available for the session, made the best baits I have ever made and was throwing at least 80 meters behind the breakers into a few holes and deeper water, not even peckers. Water was crystal clear, full of weed.

To be completely honest I'm so fed up with the fishing, I have never put in so much work for the little reward I have gotten so far our total fishing time must equal at least 4 days and the kms of walking haven't helped either.

So will look to fish the bushmans surf a bit later today into the night and will just have to cast around the bathers and sun tanners, but I'm not walking 4kms to blank will rather blank in an area where I can park within 100 meters.

WK out

Fished the bushmans surf, nothing, then moved to a spot called the cave on the bushmans river we has a few big knocks, and aimee landed a decent stumpie and that was a 3 hour session. Hope everyone has a good new years! Stay safe!

Gareth we spent a few days at Kaysers Beach over Xmas with my folks - exactly the same conditions!  It was so frustrating - a few fish had come out 3 days before we arrived, but every angler we spoke to had blanked, so don't feel alone - I wanted to sit down on the rocks and  .  My boys took my dad's boat out at PA on 24th and managed to get 2 nice cob and 5 size carpenters , so we at least had some fresh fried fish for lunch, but they battled dories and barbel most of the day  :-(

Unfortunately we can't change the seas. When the fishing gets bad like that you gotta head back and have a couple of  :frid . Awesome posts though

Hi sorry to hear about your slow fishing!

That is frustrating to say the least!

I want to suggest the PA river it really full of fish this year!

I am back in Joburg but really enjoyed the fishing this year.

Tight lines
Either I am fishing or dreaming of fishing!

Thanks mal Hannes glad you had a good trip... Any pics to share?

The weather has not been good since new years eve, so we havent fished until today. Aimee targeted some Grunter but unfortunately no action. I thought I would do a bit of micro fishing and managed a Prison Blenny, 3 Cape Stumpnose and 2 Zebra, when the bigger fish are not around, fishing micro seems to be the way to go, in an hour or so we are both going to target some small fish at the marina close to the house.

GIVE THAT MAN A BELLS.  :hehe: .  Had to make a quick stop there en route to CT.  Must admit that I'm very impressed with the Eastern Cape.  Awesome looking river systems.  Going to definitely have to plan a fishing trip down that way this year.

Today Aimee got her first fish of the year, a stumpy. But it got better about 2 hours a go she got her first ever shark, a raggie of around 20kgs, her arms are a bit sore, but it was awesome to see, she's been wanting a bag this whole trip and she finally got one! Absolutely made this trip for me!

Hey bru don't get too down at last count you had caught 48 more fish than I have this holiday  seas up here look like a rotten chocolate milkshake with swells that I think are wetting the top of Mount Everest.

Thanks for the great posts WK!

I have also been targeting a few areas around Mossel Bay and down to Kanon and Gouritz. Managed to land a few fish (two small Grunters, two small undersized Steenbras, one undersized cob, numerous small cape stump nose and a few black tails.) My highlight was 2 small Jan Bruin (my first ever for this species).

We had great holiday weather for holiday makers but not so for fishing, clear and calm seas with only two cloudy days.

And yes they were all released............
