Aimee (Mrs. Simpson) and myself went to the Eastern Cape, Kenton-on-sea, during December and January and we had a great time and we really enjoyed it. The area was packed and we struggled to fish in the surf, and walking 3-4kms to one spot during 30 degree heat was not an option.
We fished a lot of areas, old and new and all in all it was fun and Aimee won the womens section of the Kowie Crackers RASSPL tournament. Below is a summary of the events and where we caught fish during the trip with a summary of the total amount of fish caught.

Sandbar: Aimee got a 20 +/- cm Cape Stumpnose and I got a small one, good to open the account for the trip.

Riet Point: I caught a beautiful super klipfish, testing the waters for the RASSPL comp the next day.

RASSPL Comp: We fished Riet surf, before the first sister on the dropping tide. Aimee got 27cm Banded Galjoen sand prawn which won her the Ladies prize for the day, I got an Evil Eyed Puffer on sand prawn.

Kariega Bridge: Aimee caught 2 shad +/- 30cm on pink prawn, I got 1 pinky on pink prawn.

Kenton Marina: Aimee lost a big fish (probably a grunter) and I got a blenny (SPECIES)? and 2 pinky.

Sandbar: I caught a 40cm kob on pink prawn, first Kob in 2 years! We met Gareth and Mike from Ultimate there by chance.

Kariega bridge: I caught 17 pinky between 3cm - 14cm on sardine.

Bats cave: Completely dead, so we the fished river, I got 3 stumpies 1 pinky and Dewald lost a garrick on a halco sorcerer.

Sandbar: I got a Cape Moony on a curly tail.

Kariega bridge: Aimee caught 5 stumpies, and 2 blennies? I got 1 pinky.

Kariega Bridge: We fished further down than normal, and Aimee caught a big Stumpy.

Kariega Bridge: We fished big baits for Kob, nothing, Aimee caught a big Goby again.

Bushmans River: Launched the ski, fished for Grunter, got one big pull other than that I got 2 Stumpies and Aimee got 1.

Bushmans River: At the cave aimee caught a stumpnose.

Bushmans River: At flat rocks, fished micro while Aimee targeted Grunter, I got 3 Stumpies, 2 Zebra and a Prison Goby?

Bushmans River: Small Stumpy caught by Aimee at flat rocks.

Kariega mouth: Aimee got a 110cm (PCL) Raggie.

Fish Count:

Banded Galjoen: 1
Cape Moony: 1
Cape Stumpnose: 19
Evileyed Puffer: 1
Kob: 1
Pinky: 22
Ragged Tooth Shark: 1
Shad: 2
Super klipfish: 1
Zebra: 2

Blenny Sp. 3 (prison, bandit)
Goby Sp. 3

57 fish, 12 species.

First fish of the trip:

Us in our UA shirts...

Testing out Riet Point, the day before the Rasspl comp, nothing much happened here, so we decided to fish Riet surf the next day...

Rasspl comp, 16 December... Aimee won the ladies section with the Banded Galjoen, caught on a 5'6 Shimano Scimitar, Quantum Triax 30, 10lb Rovex Viros braid.

Aimee then nailed 2 nice Shad the next day...

We walked to some new areas to look for spots away from the holiday makers...

I caught a Kob later on...

The next day some micro fishing...

A ray that was later chowed by a Cape Fur Seal right in front of us...

The beautiful Bat's Cave...

Small hooks = small fish most of the time...

My 3rd Moony on artificial, this one fell prey to a Curly Tail onb a 1/8 ounce bandit jighead...

Fishing at the bridge, Aimee caught 3 of these weird Gobies, will ID them a bit later...

Night fishing, without fish...

The beautiful Kenton Eco Estate... Which unfortunately produced a BIG blank, the most dissapointing part of the trip as this area is in a private nature reserve and the fisheries are virtually untouched...

Stumpies were thicker than the mud on the prawn banks...

Micro fishing Happiness! Size 18 hook, tiny pink prawn bait, 2 beautiful Zebra...

The highlight of my trip, and I am sure Aimees as well, her first "proper" shark, a female Raggie of 110cm PCL, which suprisingly, according to the tables, is equal to 22.37kgs...

And thats it, back at work, would rather be blanking in 35 degree heat and 100km/h winds!

PS: All fish safely revived and released, and no fish eaten  :hehe: seeing fresh Kob on the menu in so many places made me cry, at least I could look at it and smell it while smoking a cigarette to suppress my hunger...

Also just to add on some tackle that we used for the first time...

Positives:

The quantum triax (Which costs +/- R190) was superb and had no problems with the rovex 10lb braid, my new reel of choice for sure!

Shimano Scimitar 5'6 rod, was also amazing very sensitive awesome for throwing light lures and jig heads and had no wear and tear or rust after constant usage.

FIN NOR 1403 Heavy rod amazing pulling power and very sensitive, handled the small raggie very well.

FIN NOR 1103 Surf Spin (3-5 ounce) casts a mile and would reccomend it to anyone!

PENN chemically sharpened hooks (Red) just do not rust!!!!

Negatives:

The Penn Powerspin, it has fallen apart, the second powerspin reel I have had that has literally fallen a part this year!

Bandit 1/8 ounce jigheads, broke 2 hooks just with my hands, would have hated it if a 25-30cm blacktail picked me up!
