Great!

I have a couple of micro catches from a couple of months back that I could post, but I'll try and get out there to catch a couple of 'fresh' micros.

Will keep you posted.

Cheers

Those Malawi cichlids look a lot in build like our canary and dwarf kurpers.

Very cool!

Here's the smallest I've caught thus far.

A mosquito fish of +/- 35mm

Want to catch one much smaller as soon as they come out for summer.

Cheers

OK, I beat my previous smallest fish by almost 1cm this Saturday.

The pre-spawn bass weren't in the mood fir biting, even when presenting lures on their heads, so I turned my attention to the micros.

Caught this Western mosquitofish on a tanago hook and small piece of white rubber lure.

She measure in at a teenie 28mm in length! Used a R1 coin for scale.

Underwater shot. If you look closely you'll see the red mark where I hooked it through the upper lip.

Most of the city dams in and around Joburg are teeming with mosquitofish at the moment.

Now I have to catch one that fits on a R1 coin ...

Cheers

Great photos and some lekker fish there. Ok we need a comp the smallest fish. I will put in a Tica bait caster Caiman CA205 for the prize. BTW I have been micro fishing for a long time just did not knew it never took pictures hahaha but the truth was I was going for much bigger fish.  :hehe:

Pick me, pick me ...

23mm mosquitofish on artlure

The 'lure' and tanago hook used on far right.

Who else is still in the running for the reel?

Cheers

Smallish Blacktail, not quite micro, thought I would share anyway, this was the smallest fish I managed to get the beginning of this year.

Fished an artlure league at Loskop this weekend and managed to pick up another 2 new species.

The first one is a true micro namely a river sardine/glassie (Mesobola brevianalis) that I caught on a tanago hook and small piece of Powerbait. We found huge schools of them, but they still weren't easy to catch.

The second new species was small, but just a juvenile Largescale yellowfish that I at first thought was some kind of ghielie.

Cheers
