I have a Shimano Clarus ultra light 5'-6'' paired with a Shimano Alivio 100 reel loaded with 4kg mono and it's great fun fishing for Kurper  :krpr:
when I die, may my wife not sell my fishing tackle for what I told her I paid for it... and I have bought more, a severe case of TA

Gareth I will bring my light set up to the social and you can have a look at it.  Its something from sensation and it maxes out at about 1oz :hehe: I don't think you can get much lighter than this. Cost was about R250. My reel is a slade 1000 and as you know that thing is tiny. Also cost about R250. The one thing I would say is go for braid! The directness is even more awesome for tiny fish firstly for the bite and secondly when "fighting" the fish you can feel every head nod! You should only need +- 100m of braid so in total your set up would be +- R600

Brad, you are talking to the king of light tackle here, my lightest rod is a half ounce  :hehe:

Def gonna go with braid, 100m should be perfect, I could maybe even load 2 small reels.

But please bring the setup, I might actually have a setup by then though...

I think a 1oz rating on this rod is rather ambitious!

My lightest set up is a Daiwa BG10 paired with a Berkley graphite Lightening Rod 5'6"  (it says lure 1/8-1/4. trilene 4-10 light action)  I bought it in the 80's specifically for in Mazoe dam in Harare where there are many tiny/small tilapia

I bought it in San Francisco while travellin - and then used it for the first time on the Saskatchewan river in Canada where I caught a 5lb pike - which snapped the rod! Berkley replaced it for free.

Since then I had great fun with it catching small tilapia in Zimbabwe - but have not used it for many years

Thanks Ziggy...

you should also google Tenkara fishing -  - But I am sure you know about that. You can get some very very light tenkara rods (no reel required). In japan they catch the smallest of fish with them
