Hi Herman - Thanks for the challenge.

I know that f/f yields more results in some instances and venues.

Instead of making it a challenge, why don't you take a couple of amateurs like me and have a sort of "workshop" to teach us the fine art of flyfishing for yellows at your venue? THEN we have a challenge!!

I truly love using the fly rod but just find it frustrating wondering IF I am doing it right, IS there fish where I fly, AM I using the right fly, WHERE should my strike indicator be etc. etc. etc. - with conventional angling it is relatively easy.

I really appreciate all the knowledge we get on this forum - but nothing beats hands on experience.

Christo, I regularly organise Vaal trips, with the express mission of helping "newbies" find their way. w;k

The next one will be in the next 2 or 3 weeks.

Keep an eye on the Vaal Update thread as well as the general f/f thread. :-)

I just need to do a bit more "prospecting" ito the rock snot at the various venues, before making the decison.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Not sure if Czech Nymphing started on spinning rods FA?

My understanding has always been as per the excerpt below (a david and goliath story incidentally which has always resonated with me) :)

"Paradoxically the history of the Czech nymph has its beginning in Poland, where during the international fly fishing competition in 1984 the Czech competitors   got acquainted with the method of fishing at short distance, used by local   competitors. Most of the Polish competitors were forced to fish short, because   they had no fishing lines at disposal and had to substitute them with thick   nylon monofilament. Flies used by Poles were imitations of Sedges Hydropsyche and Rhyacophila. "

I have had the priveledge of watching some of the countries finest fly fisherman in action on the Orange River catching small and large mouth yellows and I must state for the record:

1. It can be better described as dipping than casting
2. They caught a shed load more fish than you could ever hope for on bait
3. They missioned through the river for 10 hours in a day with serious commitment
4. They could never be described as gentleman fisherman :)
