St Lucia in September
« on: August 03, 2012, 03:29:31 PM »
So, the idea is to take some close friends of mine to St Lucia/Vidal for some serious fishing over the long weekend in September. That's the idea... :creep:

Problem 1: I have only fished that area once before for the Dev nationals... Complete blank <: The fact that I am taking friends with (no pressure seeing as they think I know   "a lot" about our beloved sport) and I would like to... Uhm... NOT look like a chop!!! What kind of fish (eds vs non-eds) should we be targeting for that time of the year?

Problem 2: CG has a league there at the same time and I would like to again, NOT look like a chop!!! :craz:

Please please please with icing and stuff, kindly share your knowledge with me (on pm if you prefer) where we can go to target both eds and non-eds between Vidal and St Lucia!

Pretty please!!!!

:shfan is really the last thing I would like to happen to me  :rotfl

 :tkx: in advance!!!!
Enjoy life, go fish more and love your better half like today is your last.

Nakkie, think Sep/Oct is change of seasons and weather and fishing there is very unpredictable that time of the year.

As Toppie says fishing at the change of seasons is very dependent on conditions. You might get the summer fish coming early or perhaps its still cold and you will be scratching for the whole time

:shd: :grk: :blktl: :gt: :brnz: :shrk: All of these should be around. The beach in front of the estuary is the best for shad and garrick, Salmon at night. vidal and mapalane goof for kings and sharks aswell as shad. Mission rocks is excellent for scratching and kings. just north of missions has some very good spots. garrick are also caught here :tite

Hi Nakkie,

This time of the year is difficult with regard to a constant stable weather pattern, so be prepared to have bad weather but be happily surprised if you get good weather.

St Lucia estuary and the umfolozi is closed so you can walk all the way to Mapelane if need be. The water in front of the st lucia estuary has a bank that is rather shallow so you will have to look for fishy water down the beaches. I know that there is good water north up the beach towards first rocks, I would fish these waters during low light times, night fishing for non-eds will be good with big slide/live baits but also for the Kob with a live bait.

The first point at Mapelane is rather sanded up and you can get into really deep water on a low tide.

There is always fish around this time of the year, but you will have to look for the right water that will produce a bite.

Best to phone Llewellyn Baxendale who does some guiding for out-of-town folk, he is a local guy who has the know-how as to what is biting. Definitely worth a call.

Will PM you his number.......

Cheers

@ Nakkie...I am going to be in St Lucia from the 31 Aug to 7 Sept and if you are there during this time,I can show you some interesting places which always produces fish even in the gale NE.
The shad, garrick and kob should be around and you might even be surprised with a kingie or two.
PM me

cheers

the river has broken through the beach so the umfolozi is open to the sea, not great as that water is supposed to be filling up the lake
