Street Legal (in the US...........)

With that one you don't have to tow your boat, you simply load it onto the back...

Seriously,

I've now sold the Toyota machine! So I'm on the look out for a bargain. I want to spend 290k or less. Something I can use daily so a F150 is no go! Perhaps a Diesel Disco or Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Please let me know if you guys come across something.

Bennie.... If I can give some advise from my standpoint. I currently use a Nissan Patrol with a few mods. It is a beast but.....and a big but....the fuel really is hectic and not advisable. The same with the landcruisers as per Carlos. However if you are patient and keep looking out for diesel models in these brands, I'm convinced you will not regret it. they are extremely scarce but they are equal to their petrol counterparts and much more economical.

This is what I will recommend and will assist in looking out for if you consider it.

Only thing is Land cruisers in my price range are 100 years old already! I need something I can use daily.

Not going to go wrong with the Jeep, 5.7litre  V8 Hemi
Check autotrader, there are 2007 models available with about 60 000km on the clock in the R290 000 range, but if you are not in too much of a hurry the new Grand Cherokee has just been released so the prices on the older models should drop quickly, but i suppose you want it like yesterday
If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there'd be a shortage of fishing poles

I've owned a Jeep, it was awesome but I won't buy the V8 again. Diesel this time!!!

Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen a winch on the front of a Jeep?

IMHO the LR Disco 4 TDV6 is the way to go.

Strong as an OX, can tow 3500kg, super comfy to travel in and a MASTER off road.

Just look at these figures:
Max Power: 180kW@ 4,000rpm
Max Torque: 600Nm@ 2,000rpm
Combined Fuel Consumption: 9.3l/100km; CO2 244g/km

Currently not much in this bracket that can challenge this... Not sure if you are going to get them in your price range just yet. Save a bit more and give it a couple of months, you will not be sorry...

NEVER !!!!

I saw the power of that Jeep in Tkei ! The last day we fished a really steep spot, the top was close to 70degrees with wet grass and the jeep went up like it was flat !
My bakkie is parked at the top ! (its a 4X2) In the second pic, I'm sitting in the bakkie taking the pic !

Hahaha... most vehicles wish they could do what that Jeepy has done...  :shk

Check this out... Sand dune on the Brakkeduine 4x4 course... out of 20 vehicles... 5 made it up... none of the Landrovers, Landcruisers made it. Prado, Hilux, 2 Monster trucks and the Jeep made it...
