Hi Bennie,I am a new member on this forum, but since you and Mike convinced me to order a Z-Craft F200, I want to give my input on tow vehicles.I am currently towing with a Jeep grand cherokee 3.0 crd which involve regular visits to Vilanculos in Mozambique. Since the originalsuspensionsion is not up to scratch, I fitted a Old Man Emu suspension. Also fitted a chip from Steves Auto Clinic which pushed up the power to 180kW and the torque to 550 NM.100 000km on the clock and no problems. You can now buy a good one for under 300k (good value for money).I dont want to promote Jeep but the following link make interesting reading.Since I dont yet know to insert an internet link, I wil spell it.http://www.overland.com.au/vehicle_tests/index/full/289/Tow-Test:-Part 1---Large-Wagons
Hi Riaan, glad you settled for the F200.I must agree that the Grand Cherokee is a good tow vehicle, even my little one tows well.
Prado no good! only 2,5 tons towing. My rig is 2,6 tons. Add some tackle, fuel etc. and I'm way over. But that is a very good price! Thanks for looking out for me!Also found a nice Cruiser 70 station wagon at a good price, but hell I'm not sure I want to drive it everyday without a kidney belt! It reminds me of a truck which I think it really is with a different body!I drove the Pajero today, a 2010 with 30k on the clocks, only R350k (still more than I want to spend)! I wasn't impressed at all. Turbo lag, noisy as hell, not the most comfortable, not very smooth gear changes, stiff steering and doesn't feel as solid as the other cars. Just not in the league of the Cruisers, Landies and Jeeps! It should compare to a Toyota Fortuner, but I rather have a Fortuner!
I think we as boat owners should start to take note of those 4X4 tata trucks. They are much cheaper than the normal bakkies and when fitted out I think they are great. And enough space to load everything
I agree, but unfortunately that only applies to those in the financial position to own 2 cars. I can't drive around seeing customers in a Tata Truck! Then when going somewhere towing, it does it easily but at 80km/h! You can't park anywhere, it isn't easy to drive...Problem I have is I used to own a Ford Mondeo ST and a Jeep Grand Cherokee simultaneously but the Jeep just stood too much, it seems like a waste! I would rather have something I can use when I want for what ever I want. I go to work, get juice on the way home, hook the boat, go fishing... I love my Hilux for just that reason with the added bonus of I can load a few thing in the back.
ja ja...but I wouldn't mind being seen in this tata pulling this rig....and the tata is only 240khttp://www.boatsonline.co.za/boats.php?dealerno=&boatno=4575&filename=pri_worldcatjune09_1.jpg
How I envy USA sometimes...
You know, that rig has been for sale for a loooooong time now!You should buy it!
