Modified Albright
« on: June 10, 2012, 11:24:09 PM »
Hi. I have been using the modified albright (Alberto's knot) for joining braid to mono and have not had any problems.
Would this knot work for joining nylon coated to mono in a bite trace or would a normal albright be preferred?
A fish in the water is worth more than two in the hand.

Depends how big your mono is. A modified Albright has wraps going down and then back up again - this will definitely not work in larger diameter mono.
In our Slide rigs, we tie 1mm to 1.6mm leaders to Carbon coated steel with an ordinary Albright. Well that was the way we used to do it. An easier knot to do is the back to back Fig 8. Thats the one I would use for all Mono to Coated steel joins.
If tying American fishing wire to Mono, I would still use the standard Albright.

Thank you very much Reefman.  I'll stick to the good old figure 8 or the Albright in my bite traces.
In your expert opinion which is the stronger knot in the mono - steel join, the figure 8 or the Albright?
Also what do you think of the improved Albright; the one where you do a few wraps around one strand of the steel loop before exiting?

No expert, but the back to back Fig 8 joining Carbon coated steel to Mono is a much more solid knot, less can go wrong.

The Modified Albright is the same as the Improved Albright - have a look at the tut in the Knots section -

Sorry Mr Reefman Sir, but these Yanks and their terminologies confuse me big time!!
I have attached the "improved Albright" I was referring to.
What do you think?

Never used that one Khaliq, sorry I don't have an opinion on it, but it seems a bit gimmicky? Might be a bit of squeeze to wrap thicker nylon around 1 strand of steel... the steel will bite into it?? Dunno....  :dunno:

I was suspected it was some sort of a fad. Will stick to good old trustworthy figure of eight aka Centauri, Savoy, Flemish, Double Stopper etc.  w;k :tkx: :tkx:
